What is a Puerto Vallarta chauffeur service?

A Puerto Vallarta chauffeur service is private transport booked in advance at a fixed price, carried out by a licensed chauffeur operator holding a federal tourism transport permit from SICT, the Secretaría de Infraestructura, Comunicaciones y Transportes, together with the access authorisation that lets it collect passengers at PVR. Within the two states, the Jalisco Secretaría de Transporte and Nayarit's Secretaría de Movilidad regulate it. The vehicle, the chauffeur and the price are agreed beforehand, whether the job is a PVR airport transfer, an hourly car service for a wedding weekend or a private transfer to a villa in Riviera Nayarit.

What it replaces is a set of local compromises. Inside the arrivals hall, timeshare and tour sellers offer rides that come with a sales presentation attached. The official airport taxis charge fixed zone fares from a desk. Ride-hailing apps cannot pick up at the terminal at all, so app users walk across the pedestrian bridge over Highway 200 with their bags. A reserved Puerto Vallarta car service skips all three: a chauffeur outside the exit doors, a black car or SUV of the class you chose, and a US dollar total that already contains the 16 percent IVA, any autopista tolls and the airport's access charges.

The same booking reaches the rest of the bay and beyond. Nuevo Vallarta, Bucerías, Punta de Mita and Sayulita in Nayarit, the South Shore beyond Conchas Chinas, the cruise terminal at Marina Vallarta, and longer city-to-city routes to Guadalajara and Costa Careyes. Planners moving wedding guests or incentive groups use group transportation, and the cost arithmetic is on the taxi alternative page.

The airports on this coast.

Almost every visitor lands at PVR. Business aircraft use its FBOs, and the far south of the Costalegre has a private charter airfield of its own.

Drive times are door to door for a direct private vehicle, not a shared shuttle. Peak covers weekday rush hours through Marina Vallarta and the Hotel Zone, and the heaviest winter arrival days. Costalegre Airport opened on 3 October 2024 and handles private charter only, with no scheduled airline service. PVR's new Terminal 2 is still under construction and not yet in use.

Getting out of PVR arrivals.

PVR is one compact building, but the walk from baggage claim to your car is where most first-time visitors get caught out. Here is how it works, and how the cruise pier compares.

The PVR terminal.

PVR operates a single two-level terminal, with domestic flights in Concourse A and international flights in Concourse B, a satellite building. It sits about 1 km north of Marina Vallarta and handled 6.9 million passengers in 2025. A new Terminal 2 is under construction, with six contact gates targeted for December 2026 and full opening in early 2027.

After customs, the route out passes through an arrivals hall lined with timeshare and tour desks. They offer free rides whose real price is a sales presentation. Walk past them without stopping. Your chauffeur is not inside. Pre-booked drivers wait just past the exit doors holding name signs, sometimes a little further out in the parking area, and the message sent before you land tells you which.

  • Outside the exit doors, the free defaultYour chauffeur waits just beyond the exit doors with your name, and the exact spot is confirmed in the message sent before you land.
  • Meet and greet, a paid add-onExtra help with bags and the walk to the car, useful for families, older travellers or anyone arriving with sports equipment.
  • Concourse A or BDomestic arrivals come through Concourse A and international arrivals through the Concourse B satellite. Your chauffeur tracks which from the flight number.

Why an app cannot collect you.

Inside Mexico's federal airport zone, only concession taxis, holders of a SICT federal tourism transport permit and operators with the airport operator's access authorisation may pick up passengers. PVR is run by GAP, the Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico. On 30 October 2025, SICT stated that ride-hailing apps are not authorised to pick up at airports. An Uber can drop you at departures, but it cannot collect you at the terminal.

The practical alternative is the pedestrian bridge over Highway 200, a walk of 5 to 10 minutes from the exit doors. City taxis, local buses and Uber all pick up on the far side. Every RYDES airport pickup is carried out by a licensed chauffeur operator holding the SICT federal tourism permit and the airport's access authorisation, which is what allows the chauffeur to meet you at the terminal rather than across the road. See PVR to Zona Romántica for timing.

Highway 200 · 900 × 600

The cruise terminal.

Puerto Vallarta's maritime terminal sits next to Marina Vallarta and berths ships of up to 140,000 gross tonnes. It handled 167 calls and about 548,000 passengers in 2024, and 171 calls in 2025. A ship-to-flight cruise transfer is one of the shortest runs on the coast.

For a port day, the car can be held by the hour so you are back before all-aboard, or booked one way to Sayulita with a timed return. The chauffeur confirms the meeting point at the pier in the message sent the day before, because it depends on the berth and the cruise line's own arrangements.

Terminal and pier facts above were checked against public sources in October 2026. Concourse use and the opening date of Terminal 2 can change, so treat your chauffeur's pre-arrival message as the authority on where to walk.

Tolls, IVA and what is not a fare.

Most trips around the bay use free roads. The autopista matters for Guadalajara, IVA applies to every fare, and a few costs are not ours to collect.

The Jala–Puerto Vallarta autopista is now complete, with its final section between Bucerías and PVR opened in late December 2024. It cuts the Guadalajara run to about 2.5 hours from roughly 5. In 2026 a car pays four booths on the way: El Arenal MXN 205, Plan de Barrancas MXN 306, Amado Nervo MXN 205 and Puerto Vallarta MXN 664, about MXN 1,380 in total. When the route uses the autopista, those tolls are inside your RYDES price. The usual run from the airport to Sayulita or Punta de Mita follows the free Highway 200.

Every fare carries Mexico's 16 percent IVA, and the airport's access charges for pre-arranged pickups apply at PVR. Both are already in the quote. Puerto Vallarta's proposed foreign-visitor fee was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court in December 2025, so no visitor fee applies here. The one cost outside a RYDES price is paid parking when you ask the car to wait somewhere that charges. Boat fares, such as the water taxi to Yelapa, are paid to the boat operator.

How charges reach the passenger leaving PVR, by way of travelling. Airport taxi fares are fixed by zone at the terminal.

Zone fares at the airport taxi desk run about US$20 to 25 to the Hotel Zone, US$25 to 35 to Centro and Zona Romántica, and US$35 to 45 to Nuevo Vallarta. For one or two people with light bags, those are hard to beat; a family, a larger vehicle or a run to Punta de Mita changes the sum. The full worked comparison is on Puerto Vallarta taxi versus chauffeur.

How long it really takes.

Distances around the bay are short, but there is one main road, one river crossing into Nayarit and a single coast highway north. These are working ranges, not best cases.

Two changes are due to shorten some of these runs. The Puente Amado Nervo, a 1.2 km six-lane federal bridge over the Ameca River between Puerto Vallarta and Bahía de Banderas, is targeted by SICT for November 2026 and expected to save up to 25 minutes a trip. Weather is the other variable: heavy rain in the hurricane season, May to November, can close roads on short notice.

Beyond the bay.

Longer runs are priced as one fixed fare for the whole journey, tolls included, so a slow section of the autopista or a mountain road in the rain is the operator's problem rather than yours.

What the Puerto Vallarta price contains.

One number in US dollars, agreed before the day, with nothing added at the kerb.

IVA and tolls
The 16 percent IVA and any autopista tolls on the route, such as the four booths on the Guadalajara run, are inside the quoted price.
Airport access
The access charges PVR applies to pre-arranged pickups are already counted, so there is nothing to pay on the way out.
Gratuity is optional
Your chauffeur's pay for the run was agreed before they accepted it. A tip is offered once at payment, and declining it changes nothing.
Flight tracking
With the flight number, dispatch follows the aircraft. Early, late or rescheduled, the pickup moves with it at no cost.
Sixty minutes at PVR
Free waiting from the actual landing, which covers immigration, customs and baggage. Fifteen minutes free at hotels, villas and the cruise pier.
Standard pickup
Your chauffeur waits outside the PVR exit doors at no charge. Meet and greet with extra help on the walk to the car is a paid add-on.
Free cancellation
Change or cancel free up to 24 hours before pickup. Inside 24 hours the booking is charged in full, because the vehicle and chauffeur are committed.
A licensed operator
Every booking is run by a licensed chauffeur operator holding the SICT federal tourism permit and PVR access authorisation, verified before it takes work.
Child seats and pets
Child seats are supplied as a paid add-on and fitted by the parent. Pets are a paid add-on, and service animals always travel free.
What is not included
Paid parking at a stop that charges, and boat fares such as the Yelapa water taxi. No visitor fee applies in Puerto Vallarta.

When you should not book us.

For a short hop from PVR with very little luggage, a chauffeur is not the cheapest sensible option, and the numbers are worth knowing before you book.

Travelling alone with a backpack to a Hotel Zone or Marina Vallarta hotel, walk out of the exit doors and over the pedestrian bridge across Highway 200, 5 to 10 minutes on foot. City taxis, local buses and Uber all pick up on the far side, and an Uber into the Hotel Zone is reported at about US$7 to 10, or about US$12 to Zona Romántica. If you would rather not cross the road, the official airport taxis charge a fixed zone fare from the desk: about US$20 to 25 to the Hotel Zone and US$25 to 35 to Centro or Zona Romántica.

A chauffeur makes sense in other circumstances: a family with checked bags, a group, small children, a late arrival, a villa in Punta de Mita or a beach house in San Pancho, a cruise connection on a tight clock, or any day you do not want to deal with the sales desks or the bridge. That is most trips, not all of them. The full comparison is on Puerto Vallarta taxi versus chauffeur.

If yours is not here, dispatch answers around the clock at +1 888 881 7933 or support@rydes.co.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at Puerto Vallarta airport?

Outside the terminal. After customs, walk through the arrivals hall without stopping at the timeshare and tour desks and go out of the exit doors. Pre-booked drivers wait just past those doors with name signs, and occasionally a little further out in the parking area; your chauffeur confirms the exact spot in the message sent before you land. Waiting outside the doors is the free standard pickup, and meet and greet is a paid add-on. See PVR airport transfer.

What are the desks offering free rides in PVR arrivals?

They are timeshare and tour sellers. The free ride they offer is tied to a sales presentation. Walk past them, leave through the exit doors, and look for your name outside, where pre-booked drivers wait.

Can I take an Uber from Puerto Vallarta airport?

Not from the terminal itself. SICT stated on 30 October 2025 that ride-hailing apps are not authorised to pick up at Mexican airports. Uber can drop off at departures, and it picks up across the pedestrian bridge over Highway 200, a 5 to 10 minute walk from the exit doors, where city taxis and buses also stop. Official airport taxis charge fixed zone fares from the terminal, about US$20 to 25 to the Hotel Zone. See taxi alternative.

Are tolls, IVA and airport fees included?

Yes. The 16 percent IVA, any autopista tolls and the airport's access charges for pre-arranged pickups are inside the US dollar price quoted at booking. On the Guadalajara run that covers about MXN 1,380 in 2026 car tolls. Paid parking at a stop is not included, and boat fares are paid separately. No visitor fee applies in Puerto Vallarta. See Puerto Vallarta car service.

Are your Puerto Vallarta chauffeurs licensed?

Yes. Every booking is carried out by a licensed chauffeur operator holding a federal tourism transport permit from SICT and the access authorisation of GAP, the airport operator, which is what allows the chauffeur to collect at PVR. In Jalisco the Secretaría de Transporte regulates transport; in Nayarit it is the Secretaría de Movilidad, under the Ley de Movilidad del Estado de Nayarit.

What time zone are Puerto Vallarta, Nuevo Vallarta and Sayulita on?

Puerto Vallarta and the Nayarit municipality of Bahía de Banderas, which includes Nuevo Vallarta, Bucerías, La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Punta de Mita, Sayulita and San Pancho, are all on Central time, UTC−6, the same as Mexico City. Bahía de Banderas has been on Central time since 2010. The rest of Nayarit, including Rincón de Guayabitos and Tepic, is on Pacific time, UTC−7. Mexico observes no daylight saving time here, so pickup times on your booking are local Central time.

How long does PVR to Zona Romántica take?

About 25 to 35 minutes off-peak and 35 to 55 minutes in heavier traffic, through the Hotel Zone and downtown. Conchas Chinas or Mismaloya take 30 to 45 minutes. See PVR to Zona Romántica.

How far is Punta de Mita or Sayulita from the airport?

Punta de Mita is about 40 to 50 minutes from PVR off-peak and Sayulita, about 40 km away, 45 to 60 minutes, both on the free Highway 200. Punta de Mita to Sayulita is about 17 km, 20 to 30 minutes. See PVR to Punta de Mita and PVR to Sayulita.

Is the new Terminal 2 at PVR open?

Not yet. Terminal 2 was about 66 percent complete in May 2026, with six contact gates targeted for December 2026 and full opening in early 2027. Until it opens, all flights use the existing two-level terminal, with domestic flights in Concourse A and international flights in the Concourse B satellite.

Do you offer Puerto Vallarta cruise transfers?

Yes. The maritime terminal is next to Marina Vallarta and close to the airport, so ship-to-flight transfers are short. We also run port days held by the hour, to Sayulita, Punta de Mita or Zona Romántica, with the car waiting so you are back before all-aboard. See Puerto Vallarta cruise transfers.

Can you drive me from Puerto Vallarta to Guadalajara or Tequila?

Yes. With the Jala–Puerto Vallarta autopista complete, Guadalajara is about 2.5 hours away instead of roughly 5, and the 2026 car tolls of about MXN 1,380 are included in the fixed fare. Tequila is reached on the same road towards Guadalajara and is quoted to the address you give. See Puerto Vallarta to Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta to Tequila and the Guadalajara city page.

How do I get to Costa Careyes?

By road from PVR it is 2.5 to 3 hours south along Highway 200, priced as one fixed fare. Travellers on private charters can instead use Costalegre Airport at Chalacatepec, Tomatlán, which opened on 3 October 2024, handles private charter only and is about 40 minutes from Careyes. See PVR to Costa Careyes.

Can you take me to San Sebastián del Oeste or Yelapa?

San Sebastián del Oeste, a Pueblo Mágico in the mountains at about 1,480 m, is under 2 hours by road and works as a day trip booked by the hour or as a fixed return fare. See Puerto Vallarta to San Sebastián del Oeste. Yelapa has no road access and is reached by water taxi; we drive you to the pier and the boat fare is paid to the boat operator.

What happens during hurricane season in Puerto Vallarta?

The Pacific hurricane season runs from May to November, and October storms are common. Hurricane Simón closed PVR on 12 October 2026, and the airport reopened to all traffic from 00:01 on 13 October; the storm stayed offshore and did not make landfall in Jalisco. In October 2023, Hurricane Lidia made landfall as a Category 4 about 65 km southwest of the city and blocked Highway 200. If a storm affects your booking, dispatch contacts you, and cancellations more than 24 hours ahead are free.

What is the current travel advisory for Jalisco and Nayarit?

As of the advisory dated 29 May 2026, the US State Department rates Jalisco at Level 3, Reconsider travel due to terrorism, crime, and kidnapping, with no restrictions on US government staff travel to Puerto Vallarta, and rates Nayarit at Level 2, Exercise increased caution. On 22 February 2026, after a federal security operation, highway blockades occurred across Jalisco including Puerto Vallarta and flights were suspended that day. Dispatch monitors road conditions and contacts you if a route is affected. The current advisory is published at travel.state.gov.

How far ahead should I book, and can I request an English-speaking chauffeur?

Book at least 3 hours before pickup; reservations open up to a year ahead. The winter high season and the whale season, officially 1 December to 31 March for 2025–26, fill quickly, as do wedding weekends, so book early for those dates. You can ask for an English-speaking chauffeur in the booking notes, and the operator confirms whether one is assigned.

What if my flight to PVR is delayed?

Give us the flight number and dispatch tracks the aircraft. A delay moves the pickup automatically at no charge, and the 60 free minutes start at the actual landing time, which covers immigration and baggage. Beyond that, waiting is billed in 15-minute increments and you are told before it starts. If the airport closes, as it did for Hurricane Simón, dispatch rebooks with you around the reopening. Dispatch answers around the clock on +1 888 881 7933. See PVR airport transfer.
