Messe Frankfurt chauffeur

What is a Frankfurt chauffeur service?

A Frankfurt chauffeur service is a private car booked in advance at a fixed euro price and driven by a licensed chauffeur operator holding a Mietwagen concession under the Personenbeförderungsgesetz (PBefG), the federal Passenger Transport Act, with concessions in the city enforced by the Ordnungsamt der Stadt Frankfurt am Main. Because it is a Mietwagen and not a taxi, the car cannot be stopped on the street and does not queue at ranks. The vehicle class, the chauffeur and the total are agreed before the journey, whether that is a Frankfurt Airport transfer, an hourly car service in Frankfurt or a black car to the Bankenviertel.

Where it earns its place is predictability. A taxi meter keeps running while the Frankfurter Kreuz backs up beside the airport, and app prices can climb on the first morning of a big fair. A reserved Frankfurt car service booking does neither: the figure you accept already holds the 19 percent VAT, any short-stay or car park charge at the airport for your pickup, and the waiting allowance. Germany has no car toll on its Autobahns and Frankfurt has no congestion charge, so there is nothing else to add. For a direct side-by-side, see the taxi alternative in Frankfurt.

The same reservation reaches well past the city line. Terminal 3 to the Bankenviertel without the people mover, FRA to Messe Frankfurt on fair days, FRA to Bad Homburg and the Taunus, a transfer between FRA and Hahn, and FRA to Ramstein for travellers heading to the air base. Firms with people landing every week use corporate accounts in Frankfurt for central invoicing on the same fleet.

The airports that matter for Frankfurt.

One of Europe's biggest hubs on the city's edge, with two passenger terminals in use, and a second airport carrying the Frankfurt name that is a long drive away.

Times are door to door for a direct private car, not a shared shuttle. Peak means roughly 07:00 to 09:30 and 16:00 to 19:00 on weekdays. Messe fair days, Friday afternoons before a holiday and any blockage at the Frankfurter Kreuz sit outside both columns. Terminal 2 closed on 9 June 2026 for a long renovation, so FRA flights now leave from Terminal 1 or Terminal 3 only.

Where your chauffeur actually meets you.

FRA changed more in 2026 than in the previous twenty years. A new terminal opened, an old one shut, and the train link between them slowed down. This is how pickups work now.

Terminal 1.

Terminal 1 is the Lufthansa Group and Star Alliance terminal, with the regional station underneath it and the long-distance ICE station a five-minute walk away. Its arrivals roads are short-stay zones. The Kiss & Ride areas, P35 for arrivals and P39 for departures, give each car ten free minutes, allow a maximum of two entries a day and read number plates at the barrier.

Ten minutes is fine for a drop-off and rarely enough to collect someone through passport control and baggage, which is why chauffeurs meeting passengers inside use the P2 and P3 car parks, at roughly €1 per 15 minutes. That charge is part of your price. Your pre-arrival message names the exact meeting point, and the drive on to the towers is set out on FRA to the Bankenviertel.

  • Pickup area your chauffeur names, the free defaultUsually Kiss & Ride P35 or the P2 or P3 car park; the exact spot is in the message sent before you land.
  • Meet and greet, a paid add-onYour chauffeur waits in the arrivals hall with your name and walks you to the car. Worth it after a long-haul flight.
  • Check your terminalLufthansa and Star Alliance in Terminal 1, most other airlines in Terminal 3. The boarding pass is the authority on the day.

Terminal 3.

Terminal 3 opened on 23 April 2026 and now takes most carriers outside the Lufthansa group, among them Cathay, Emirates, Qatar, Korean, American, British Airways, Delta, Air France, KLM and easyJet. Condor follows in summer 2027. It is signposted from the A5, has a drop-off zone directly in front, and its car park, P11, holds up to 8,500 cars.

Terminal 3 has no railway station. Passengers going into town by train ride the Sky Line people mover to Terminal 1 first, about 10 to 15 minutes, and the Sky Line now runs at a reduced 50 km/h and shuts every night from 23:00 to 04:00, when a bus takes over. A chauffeur collects at Terminal 3 directly, so none of that applies. Timing is on Terminal 3 to the Bankenviertel.

  • Front of terminal or P11Your chauffeur confirms whether the meeting is at the drop-off zone or in P11, depending on the hour and your bags.
  • Late arrivalsLanding after 23:00 means the Sky Line is closed. Being met at the terminal avoids the replacement bus entirely.

Frankfurt-Hahn.

Frankfurt-Hahn is not in Frankfurt. It sits in the Hunsrück hills, 116 km from FRA Terminal 1 and 125 km from the Bankenviertel, roughly 85 minutes away with a clear road. In summer 2026 it served 38 destinations with Ryanair, Wizz Air and FlyOne.

Every year some travellers book a Hahn flight believing it lands at Frankfurt's main airport, and only find out at the gate. Check the airport code: FRA is the city's airport, HHN is not. If you are already booked into Hahn, a pre-booked car is the most direct way to the city, and FRA to Hahn covers connections between the two airports.

Terminal facts above were checked against public sources in October 2026. FRA is mid-way through moving airlines between terminals, so confirm yours from the boarding pass, and treat your chauffeur's pre-arrival message as the final word on where to walk.

Licence, VAT and the airport kerb.

Frankfurt has no road charge to speak of. What shapes a chauffeur price here is how the car is licensed, which VAT rate applies to it, and what the airport charges for stopping.

Every RYDES car in Frankfurt is a Mietwagen, a hire car with driver licensed under section 49(4) of the PBefG. The rules are strict and they explain how the service works. A booking has to reach the operator's business seat before the trip; the car may not be flagged down or wait at a taxi rank; and after each journey it must head back to its base unless the next order has already come in, the so-called Rückkehrpflicht. Drivers hold the Fahrerlaubnis zur Fahrgastbeförderung, the passenger transport permit known as the P-Schein, and since 2021 new applicants prove professional competence instead of local street knowledge. For you that means a car that was always coming for you by name, at a price settled in advance. RYDES arranges the booking; the licensed chauffeur operator carries out the journey.

The licence also decides the tax. German taxis charge the reduced 7 percent rate on their fares, which helps on short local hops; Mietwagen pay the standard 19 percent, as the Federal Fiscal Court (Bundesfinanzhof) confirmed in 2014. The 19 percent is inside every RYDES quote. Germany has no car toll on the Autobahn and Frankfurt has no congestion charge. The city's Umweltzone, inside the ring formed by the A5, A3 and A661, needs a green sticker, which every operator car carries; the airport itself sits outside it, and no diesel bans are in force.

In December 2025 the city checked 2,478 Mietwagen listed on ride-hailing platforms and found that 18.7 percent lacked a valid concession; 464 operators were blocked from the platforms. The city has shared data with the platforms since July 2025 and plans to digitise its checks by the end of 2026. Frankfurt has no Mietwagen minimum fare. RYDES works only with operators whose concession and insurance are verified before their first booking.

Routing is the operator's job, not a line on your bill. On a fair morning the chauffeur may skip the obvious approach to the Messe for a slower-looking one that moves, and none of it changes the quote. The full comparison with a metered fare is on Frankfurt taxi versus chauffeur.

How long it really takes.

FRA is close to the city, and the distances look trivial. The variable is the Frankfurter Kreuz, the A3 and A5 interchange right beside the airport, and on fair days the roads around the Messe.

Typical door-to-door driving times on common Frankfurt routes, for a direct private vehicle.
RouteOff-peakWeekday peakWhat moves it
FRA Terminal 1 to the Bankenviertel15 to 20 min25 to 40 min12.6 km; the Frankfurter Kreuz is the swing factor
FRA Terminal 3 to the Bankenviertel15 to 22 min25 to 40 min15.3 km; a longer exit from the new terminal, then the same interchange
FRA Terminal 1 to Messe Frankfurt15 to 20 min25 to 40 min13.9 km; fair days add more, sometimes a lot more
FRA Terminal 1 to the Römer and Altstadt17 to 22 min30 to 45 min12.7 km; the old town's narrow streets slow the last stretch
FRA to Eschborn15 to 20 min25 to 35 min15.7 km; the office towns west of the city
FRA to Offenbach18 to 22 min30 to 45 min18.9 km; across the Main to the east

FRA to Frankfurt-Hahn1 h 20 to 1 h 301 h 40 to 2 h116 km; the longest airport link in the region

Messe Frankfurt is the event that most distorts these numbers. On the opening day of a big fair, hotel departures, shuttle buses and taxis all converge on the same few streets at once. For a departure flight you cannot miss on a fair day, plan on the upper end of the peak column, then add a margin.

Leaving town.

Day trips and onward journeys are quoted as one fare for the whole run, so a slow afternoon on the motorway changes the arrival time, not the price.

Distances and times are measured from the Bankenviertel, except Ramstein, which is from FRA. When you should not book us.

Frankfurt Airport has a railway station under Terminal 1, and for plenty of trips the train is the better answer. We would rather tell you here than after you have paid.

Landing at Terminal 1 alone with a carry-on and staying near the Hauptbahnhof, take the train. The regional station on level 0 under Terminal 1 has S8, S9, RB58, RE59, RE2 and RE3 services, about 15 minutes to the Hauptbahnhof. The RMV Airport-to-City ticket costs €13.50 per adult or €22.50 for a group of up to five, is valid until 05:00 the following day, and covers local trains only, not ICE or IC. If you already hold a Deutschlandticket, at €63 a month, local trains are covered. The long-distance ICE station is a five-minute walk from Terminal 1. Note that Lufthansa's AiRail baggage check-in at that station closes from 26 October 2026.

The picture changes at Terminal 3, which has no station: the Sky Line to Terminal 1 takes 10 to 15 minutes before the train even starts, and after 23:00 it is a bus. A chauffeur also makes more sense with heavy luggage, three or more travellers, small children, a fair-day hotel run, a destination off the rail lines such as Kronberg or Königstein, or several stops in one day. That is most of why people book us, not all of it. The full cost comparison is on Frankfurt taxi versus chauffeur.

Which FRA terminal does my flight use?

Frankfurt Airport currently runs two passenger terminals. Lufthansa Group and Star Alliance airlines use Terminal 1. Most other carriers, including Emirates, Qatar, Cathay, Korean, American, British Airways, Delta, Air France, KLM and easyJet, use Terminal 3, which opened on 23 April 2026. Condor moves to Terminal 3 in summer 2027. Terminal 2 closed on 9 June 2026 for renovation. Check your boarding pass, and see FRA airport transfers.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at Terminal 1?

By default at the short-stay pickup area or car park named in the message you receive before landing, usually Kiss & Ride P35 or the P2 or P3 car park. Kiss & Ride gives only ten free minutes, so chauffeurs who meet you inside use P2 or P3, and that charge is included in your price. Meet and greet in the arrivals hall is a paid add-on. Details are on the FRA transfer page.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at Terminal 3?

At Terminal 3 itself, either at the drop-off zone in front of the building or in car park P11; your chauffeur names the exact point in the pre-arrival message. You do not need to take the Sky Line to Terminal 1 first, which train passengers must do. See Terminal 3 transfers and Terminal 3 to the Bankenviertel.

Is Frankfurt-Hahn the same as Frankfurt Airport?

No. Frankfurt-Hahn (HHN) is about 116 km from FRA Terminal 1 and 125 km from the Bankenviertel, around 85 minutes with clear roads. It serves Ryanair, Wizz Air and FlyOne. Travellers do book Hahn by mistake, so check that your ticket says FRA. If Hahn is your airport, see Hahn airport transfers and FRA to Hahn.

How long does FRA to the Bankenviertel take?

From Terminal 1 it is 12.6 km, typically 15 to 20 minutes off-peak and 25 to 40 minutes in weekday peak traffic. From Terminal 3 it is 15.3 km, 15 to 22 minutes off-peak and 25 to 40 at peak. The Frankfurter Kreuz beside the airport causes most of the variation. See FRA to the Bankenviertel.

How long does FRA to Messe Frankfurt take?

About 13.9 km from Terminal 1, usually 15 to 20 minutes off-peak and 25 to 40 minutes at peak. On fair days it can take considerably longer as hotel and shuttle traffic converge on the grounds. Book early for fair weeks. See FRA to Messe Frankfurt and Messe Frankfurt chauffeur service.

Are your Frankfurt chauffeurs licensed?

Yes. Each car is run by a licensed chauffeur operator holding a Mietwagen concession under section 49(4) of the Personenbeförderungsgesetz, and the Ordnungsamt der Stadt Frankfurt am Main enforces those concessions in the city. Drivers hold the Fahrerlaubnis zur Fahrgastbeförderung, the P-Schein. RYDES verifies concession and insurance before an operator takes its first booking. RYDES arranges the trip; the operator carries it out.

Why can I not find a RYDES car on the street?

Because German law does not allow it. A Mietwagen must receive its booking at the operator's business seat before the trip, may not be flagged down or use taxi ranks, and has to return to base after each job unless the next booking is already in. That is why every RYDES ride is pre-booked at a fixed price, and why the car arriving is coming for you specifically.

Is VAT included, and why is it 19 percent?

Yes, VAT is inside every quote. Mietwagen in Germany pay the standard 19 percent rate, confirmed by the Federal Fiscal Court in 2014, while taxis benefit from a reduced rate on their fares. That difference is real on very short trips. On longer runs, with waiting and luggage, the fixed price usually compares well. See Frankfurt taxi versus chauffeur.

Are there tolls or a congestion charge in Frankfurt?

No. Germany has no car toll on its Autobahns and Frankfurt has no congestion charge. The city has an Umweltzone inside the ring of the A5, A3 and A661 that requires a green sticker, and every operator car carries one. The airport lies outside the zone, and no diesel bans are in force.

Should I just take the train from FRA?

Sometimes, yes. From the regional station under Terminal 1, S-Bahn and regional trains reach the Hauptbahnhof in about 15 minutes. The RMV Airport-to-City ticket is €13.50 per adult or €22.50 for up to five people, valid on local trains until 05:00 the next day, but not on ICE or IC services. A Deutschlandticket (€63 a month) also covers local trains. From Terminal 3 you first ride the Sky Line, 10 to 15 minutes, which is replaced by a bus from 23:00 to 04:00.

How much free waiting do I get at FRA?

Sixty minutes from the actual landing time, tracked against the aircraft, which covers passport control and baggage. Other pickups include 15 minutes free. After that, waiting is billed in 15-minute increments and you are told before it starts. Any airport car park charge for your pickup is already inside the price.

Can you take me to Wiesbaden, Mainz or Heidelberg?

Yes, each as one fixed fare. From the Bankenviertel, Wiesbaden is about 38 km, Mainz 41 km and Heidelberg 90 km, roughly 35 to 45 minutes, 40 to 50 minutes and 1 hour 10 to 1 hour 25 respectively. See Frankfurt to Wiesbaden, Frankfurt to Mainz, Frankfurt to Heidelberg and, from the airport, FRA to Wiesbaden.

Do you drive to Ramstein Air Base?

Yes. Ramstein is about 120 km from FRA, usually 1 hour 30 to 1 hour 45. The chauffeur takes you to the address you give; access to the base itself follows the base's own rules, so confirm your entry point before booking. See FRA to Ramstein.

Can I book a chauffeur by the hour in Frankfurt?

Yes, from a two-hour minimum in 30-minute increments. The car waits between stops, which suits a day between the Bankenviertel, Eschborn and Bad Homburg, or a Rhine gorge outing to Rüdesheim. Parking you ask for at a stop is the only cost outside the quote. See hourly chauffeur in Frankfurt.

When should I book ahead in Frankfurt?

Always at least 3 hours before pickup; reservations open up to a year out. Book well ahead for fair weeks at Messe Frankfurt, including Ambiente and Christmasworld from 29 January to 2 February 2027 and Light + Building in even years, and for the Römerberg Christmas market from 23 November to 22 December 2026. Clocks go back on 25 October 2026, so check early-morning pickup times. Teams should consider corporate accounts.

Do Frankfurt chauffeurs speak English?

Do not assume so. You can request an English-speaking chauffeur in the booking notes, and the operator confirms whether one is available before the trip. The pre-arrival message with the meeting point, the chauffeur's name and the plate is sent in writing, so you can find the car either way.
