Prague black car service

What is a Prague chauffeur service?

A Prague chauffeur service is a car with a driver reserved ahead of time at a price fixed when you book, carried out by a licensed taxi-service operator with a registered vehicle and a driver holding the taxi driver card. Under the Czech Road Transport Act 111/1994, as amended by Act 115/2020 from 1 July 2020, a pre-booked chauffeur car is regulated as taxi service ordered by contract or electronic order. The operator holds a koncese for carrying passengers in vehicles of up to nine people, and the car sits in the taxi register under that operator's company ID. Whether you book a Prague airport transfer, an hourly car service in Prague or a black car to the Old Town, the class, the pickup and the price are settled before the day.

Czech law makes that fixed price workable. An electronically ordered journey may run without a taximeter, provided you know the final price before travelling and receive a confirmation by email, and a car working only that way needs no roof sign, although it still carries the evidence sticker inside the windscreen. That matters more now, because Prague no longer caps metered taxi fares (since 1 October 2026). A reserved Prague car service quote already contains VAT and, on longer runs, the digital motorway vignette, so the number on your confirmation is the one that leaves your card.

The same booking covers far more than the airport road: hotels in the Old Town and Josefov, the hill below Prague Castle, conferences at the Prague Congress Centre, concerts at the O2 Arena, and day trips to Karlovy Vary or Český Krumlov. If you are weighing a reserved car against a rank or an app, the Prague taxi alternative page sets the two side by side, and corporate travel in Prague adds central invoicing for teams that visit every month.

Every airport that serves Prague.

For almost every visitor the answer is one airport, on the western edge of the city at Ruzyně. The only realistic alternative is a long way off and only makes sense when the trip already involves Austria.

Airports serving Prague, with approximate road distance and typical door-to-door driving time to the Old Town.

Drive times are door to door for a direct private car, widened from free-flow figures. Peak means roughly 07:00 to 09:30 and 15:30 to 18:30 on weekdays. Concert nights at the O2 Arena, the December market weeks and marathon weekend sit outside both columns. A Vienna airport run crosses a border, so the licensed operator for that side is confirmed at booking.

Where your chauffeur actually meets you.

Prague's airport is compact, with two passenger terminals side by side and arrivals halls you leave straight from baggage reclaim. The city centre is where pickups get harder, not the airport.

Václav Havel Airport.

Václav Havel Airport handled a record 17,750,528 passengers in 2025, 8.5 percent more than the year before, with 84 airlines flying to 194 destinations. The airport expects up to 18.9 million in 2026. Arrivals come through Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, and both open into an arrivals hall where pre-booked drivers wait for their passengers.

Your chauffeur meets you in the arrivals hall of the terminal you land at, and names the exact spot in the message sent before you land. Free waiting is counted from the actual touchdown, so passport control on a long-haul arrival and a slow baggage belt are covered. For timings beyond the airport road, see PRG to the Old Town and PRG to Wenceslas Square.

  • Arrivals hall, the free defaultYour chauffeur waits in the arrivals hall of your terminal and takes you to the car parked nearby.
  • Meet and greet, a paid add-onChauffeur positioned at the hall exit holding your name, useful with children, heavy luggage or a first visit.
  • Terminal 1 or 2Check your booking or boarding pass for the terminal. Your chauffeur confirms the meeting spot for that terminal in the pre-arrival message.

Taxis and apps at the airport.

Since September 2023 Uber has been the airport's official taxi partner, with kiosks in the arrivals halls of both terminals. The airport does not publish a fixed taxi fare into the city. Travel guides put a metered ride to the centre at roughly CZK 600 to 800 and an app ride at roughly CZK 400 to 600, and those figures move with demand and the hour.

A reserved car differs on two points: the price and the vehicle are both set before you fly, and nobody needs to queue at a kiosk after landing. Which one suits you depends on the group, the luggage and the time of day, and the Prague taxi alternative page walks through the trade-off honestly.

Drop-offs in the historic centre.

The harder part of a Prague transfer is the final few hundred metres. Charles Bridge is pedestrian only, many lanes in the Old Town are narrow, and much kerbside space belongs to residents' blue parking zones. Where a hotel door cannot be reached by car, the chauffeur stops at the nearest permitted point and helps with the bags from there.

The same applies on the Castle side. Hotels in Malá Strana and on the slopes below Prague Castle are often reached by a short walk from the closest street a car may use. Tell us the hotel name at booking and the operator plans the drop-off before the day, rather than discovering the restriction on arrival.

Airport facts above were checked against public sources in October 2026. Terminal use by airline can change, so confirm yours on the day, and treat your chauffeur's pre-arrival message as the authority on where to walk.

Vignettes, VAT and the city tax.

Three things shape what a ride costs in Prague: the digital motorway vignette on longer runs, the tax on the fare, and whether a meter is running at all. Each reaches you differently depending on how you travel.

Czech motorways are paid by a digital vignette sold through eDalnice.gov.cz rather than by toll booths. For 2026 it costs CZK 230 for one day, CZK 300 for ten days, CZK 480 for thirty days and CZK 2,570 for the year. Operators' cars carry it, and on any route that uses the motorway, such as Karlovy Vary, Český Krumlov or Dresden, it is already inside your price. You never buy one yourself.

VAT is included in the price. Local fares in Czechia are charged in Czech koruna, and RYDES quotes in euros; your card is charged in euros. Separate from the ride is the city tourist fee of CZK 50 per person per night, the last confirmed rate from 2022, which is charged by your accommodation and has nothing to do with transport. The only cost outside a RYDES quote is paid parking if you ask the car to wait somewhere that charges for it.

How charges reach the traveller in Prague, by way of travelling. Taxi and app ranges are the rough figures published in travel guides, not airport tariffs.

Routing is the operator's decision, not a line on your bill. Into the Old Town a chauffeur may take the main western approach or a route along the river depending on the hour, and none of that changes what you were quoted. A fuller comparison with metered taxis and apps is on Prague taxi versus chauffeur.

How long it really takes.

The airport is close by European standards, but the last stretch into the historic centre is slow at any hour. These ranges start from free-flow figures and add what the city actually does to them.

Ranges are widened from OSRM free-flow figures and are not published timings. For a departure flight you cannot miss, especially on a weekday afternoon or in the December market weeks, plan from the upper end of the peak column and add a margin.

Leaving town.

Day trips and onward journeys are priced as one fixed fare for the whole distance, not by the kilometre, so a slow stretch of motorway is the operator's concern rather than yours.

What the Prague price contains.

No meter ticking, no demand multiplier, and nothing added once the journey is over.

VAT and the vignette
VAT is included in the price, and on motorway routes so is the digital vignette the operator's car carries. One figure, agreed when you book.
Airport and road charges
Any airport or road charge on the route is counted in the quote, so nothing is added at the kerb or after the ride.
Gratuity is your choice
The operator agreed the fare for this run before accepting it. A tip is offered once at payment, and declining it is completely fine.
Flight tracking
Add your flight number and we follow the aircraft. If it lands early or late, the pickup moves with it at no charge.
An hour at the airport
Sixty minutes of free waiting from actual landing at Václav Havel Airport. Fifteen minutes free at every other pickup, then 15-minute increments, with notice first.
Arrivals hall pickup
Collection in the arrivals hall of your terminal is the standard, free option. Meet and greet with your name at the exit is a paid add-on.
Free cancellation
Change or cancel at no cost until 24 hours before pickup. Inside that window the booking is charged in full, because a car and driver are already committed.
A registered, licensed car
Every Prague journey is carried out by a licensed taxi-service operator, in a car entered in the taxi register and driven by a holder of the taxi driver card.
Child seats and pets
Child seats are supplied on request as a paid add-on, and the parent fits them. Pets are a paid add-on; service animals always ride free.
What is not included
Paid parking when you ask the car to wait somewhere that charges, and the accommodation tourist fee, which your hotel collects. Everything else is in the quote.

When you should not book us.

Prague's airport has no rail link yet, and the opening has been put back to around 2030. Even so, its buses connect to the metro well, and for some travellers they are simply the better choice.

If you are on your own with a carry-on, take bus 59 to Nádraží Veleslavín and change to metro line A. It takes about 35 minutes to the centre and a 90-minute ticket costs CZK 50, which no car will match. Bus 100 to Zličín with a change to metro line B takes about 45 minutes. The Airport Express (AE) runs from Terminal 1 to the main station, Hlavní nádraží, in about 45 minutes for CZK 200, and day passes are not valid on it. Late at night, lines 907 and 910 cover the gap.

A chauffeur is worth its price in other situations: luggage you would rather not carry down metro stairs, three or more people sharing one fare, young children, a hotel well away from a metro station, an early departure before the network wakes up, several stops in one day, or a run to Karlovy Vary or Český Krumlov. That is most of why people book, but it is not everyone, and we prefer to say so. The full comparison sits on Prague taxi versus chauffeur.

Prague questions.

If yours is not here, dispatch answers around the clock at +1 888 881 7933 or support@rydes.co.

Is a Prague chauffeur car licensed?

Yes. A pre-booked car with a driver is regulated in Czechia as taxi service ordered by contract or electronic order, under the Road Transport Act 111/1994 as amended by Act 115/2020. RYDES uses licensed taxi-service operators with a koncese, a registered vehicle in the taxi register and a driver holding the taxi driver card. See Prague car service.

Why does a chauffeur car in Prague have no roof sign?

Czech rules let a journey booked by electronic order run without a taximeter, as long as the customer knows the final price beforehand and receives an emailed confirmation. A car working only that way needs no roof sign. It must still carry the evidence sticker, the evidenční nálepka, inside the windscreen, and appear in the taxi register under the operator's company ID.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at Václav Havel Airport?

In the arrivals hall of the terminal you land at, Terminal 1 or Terminal 2. Your chauffeur names the exact spot in the message sent before you land. Meet and greet at the hall exit with your name is a paid add-on. Details are on the Prague airport transfer page.

How long does the airport to Old Town drive take?

About 25 to 35 minutes off-peak and 40 to 60 minutes at weekday peak for the roughly 16 km to Old Town Square. The Castle side is a little quicker, Wenceslas Square a little slower. See PRG to the Old Town and PRG to Prague Castle.

How much is a taxi from Prague airport?

The airport does not publish a fixed fare. Travel guides put a metered taxi to the centre at roughly CZK 600 to 800 and an app ride at roughly CZK 400 to 600, and both move with demand. Prague no longer caps metered taxi fares (since 1 October 2026). A RYDES price is agreed at booking. The comparison is on Prague taxi versus chauffeur.

Who is the official taxi at Prague airport?

Uber has been the airport's official taxi partner since September 2023, with kiosks in the arrivals halls of both terminals. A RYDES booking is separate: the car is reserved before you fly and your chauffeur is waiting in the arrivals hall when you come through.

Are VAT and the motorway vignette included?

Yes. VAT is included in the price, and on routes that use the motorway the digital vignette the car carries is too. Any airport or road charge on the route is also inside the quote. The only cost outside it is paid parking if you ask the car to wait somewhere that charges.

Do you charge in Czech koruna?

No. RYDES quotes in euros; your card is charged in euros. Local fares such as the Airport Express or a public transport ticket stay in Czech koruna, which is why they appear as CZK on this page.

Is the Prague tourist fee part of the fare?

No. The city tourist fee, CZK 50 per person per night at the last confirmed rate from 2022, is charged by your accommodation and has nothing to do with transport. It never appears on a RYDES booking.

Would public transport be better for me?

Sometimes, and we would rather say so. Alone with a carry-on, bus 59 to Nádraží Veleslavín and metro line A takes about 35 minutes on a CZK 50 90-minute ticket. The Airport Express to Hlavní nádraží takes about 45 minutes for CZK 200. A chauffeur is worth it with luggage, three or more people, children, early flights or a hotel away from the metro.

Is there a train from Prague airport?

Not yet. The airport rail link is not open and has been put back to around 2030. Until then the Airport Express bus runs to Hlavní nádraží, and buses 59 and 100 connect to metro lines A and B.

Can you drop me at my Old Town hotel door?

Where a car is allowed to reach it, yes. Charles Bridge is pedestrian only, several lanes are narrow, and much kerb space is residents' blue-zone parking, so some hotels are reached from the nearest permitted point with the chauffeur helping with bags. Give the hotel name at booking. See Old Town transfers.

Can you take me to Karlovy Vary or Český Krumlov?

Yes, as one fixed fare. Karlovy Vary is about 122 km, usually 1 hour 30 to 2 hours, and Český Krumlov about 194 km, 2 hours 15 to 3 hours. A day trip with waiting can be booked by the hour instead. See Prague to Karlovy Vary and Prague to Český Krumlov.

Can you drive me from Prague to Dresden or Vienna?

Often, yes. Both are cross-border, so the licensed operator for the other side is confirmed by dispatch at booking rather than sold automatically. Dresden is about 152 km, roughly 2 to 2 hours 30, and Vienna about 354 km, roughly 4 to 4 hours 45. See Prague to Dresden and Prague to Vienna.

Can I hire a car and driver by the hour in Prague?

Yes, with a two-hour minimum in 30-minute increments. The chauffeur waits between stops, which suits a day between Karlín offices, the Congress Centre and a dinner in Malá Strana, or a Kutná Hora day out. See hourly chauffeur hire.

How far ahead should I book in Prague?

At least 3 hours before pickup, so the operator can assign and brief a chauffeur, and reservations open up to a year ahead. Book early for the Christmas market weeks from late November, marathon weekend in early May and the Prague Spring season from mid May. Regular travellers should look at corporate accounts.

What if my flight is delayed?

Add the flight number and we follow the aircraft. A delay moves the pickup automatically at no cost, and the 60 free minutes start at the actual landing time. After that, waiting is billed in 15-minute increments and you are told before it starts. Cancelling is free until 24 hours before pickup.
