Cruise quays.

Embarkation and disembarkation at the Oslo cruise terminals on Revierkaia and Filipstad, timed to the ship. Most passengers pair the quay with the airport, so the common booking is a quay pickup straight to Gardermoen, or a short loop to Holmenkollen and Bygdøy first.

What is an Oslo chauffeur service?

An Oslo chauffeur service is private ground transport booked in advance at a price agreed before departure, run by an operator holding a Norwegian taxi licence (drosjeløyve) granted by the county authority (fylkeskommune) under the Yrkestransportlova. Norway has no separate limousine permit any more: every paid car with up to 8+1 seats needs that taxi licence. It is not hailed from the kerb or matched to the nearest app driver. Whether the job is an Oslo airport transfer from Gardermoen, an hourly car service in Oslo or a black car to a meeting at Fornebu, the car class, the chauffeur and the total are fixed before you set off.

Where it differs from a taxi you flag down is predictability over a long distance. Gardermoen sits roughly 50 km north of the centre, so a metered ride can grow with every slow kilometre of the E6, and the price you are told at the rank depends on which company happens to be first in line. A pre-booked Oslo car service settles one number in advance, with the 12 percent VAT (mva) on passenger transport and every toll ring crossing on the route already folded in. RYDES quotes in euros; your card is charged in euros. Local fares mentioned on this page, such as the airport train, stay in Norwegian kroner.

The same booking reaches well past the city line. Torp airport transfers bring Sandefjord arrivals north, OSL to Lillestrøm serves the trade fair halls, and OSL to Fornebu and OSL to Aker Brygge cover the western offices and the harbour. When the day heads further, our Oslo to Drammen and Oslo to Stockholm routes are one fare each. If you are comparing against the rank, start with Oslo taxi alternative, and teams flying in every week can move billing onto corporate travel in Oslo.

The airports that serve Oslo.

One national hub well north of the city, and one smaller field down the Vestfold coast that some airlines prefer.

Times are door to door from the pickup to the destination, for a direct private car rather than a shared bus. Peak means the weekday rush, roughly the same windows the toll ring uses: 06:30 to 09:00 and 15:00 to 17:00. Snowfall sits outside both columns. A proper snow day on the E6 or the E18 can add a third or more to the off-peak figure, so plan winter departures separately.

Where you meet your chauffeur.

Gardermoen is a big, busy hub where the public rank and the pre-booked pickup are not the same place. Torp is far smaller. The cruise quays are the place where knowing the ship name matters most.

Oslo Gardermoen.

Gardermoen handled about 27.07 million passengers in 2025, 2 percent more than the year before. The public taxi rank sits just outside international arrivals, and self-service taxi machines stand outside the terminal at ground level for travellers who have not booked. Avinor, which runs the airport, warns people not to get into unbooked taxis.

A RYDES pickup does not use the rank. The exact meeting point for pre-booked cars is given by your chauffeur in the message that arrives before you land, together with the name, the vehicle and a phone number, so you walk straight to it after baggage reclaim. Any charge the airport makes on the operator for that pickup is already inside the price. Drive timings into town are on OSL to Oslo centre, and the hill run is on OSL to Holmenkollen.

  • Standard pickup, the free defaultThe chauffeur waits at the meeting point named in the pre-arrival message and comes to you by phone if you cannot see the car.
  • Meet and greet, a paid add-onYour chauffeur stands in the arrivals hall with your name, useful after a long-haul flight or with a group to gather.
  • Ground level outsideThe taxi machines and the public rank are for travellers without a booking. Walk past them to the point your chauffeur gave you.

Sandefjord Torp.

Torp is a compact airport near Sandefjord, about 115 km from Oslo S and roughly 163 km by road from Gardermoen. It suits low-cost and charter routes, and for anyone staying in Vestfold it can be the nearer airport by a long way. As at Gardermoen, the chauffeur names the exact meeting point before you land.

The drive north is the long part. From Torp the E18 runs through Vestfold and past Drammen into Oslo, typically 1 hour 45 to 2 hours, more on a winter evening or a Friday heading the other way. The full route detail is on Torp to Oslo.

Revierkaia and Filipstad.

Oslo's cruise quays welcomed 331,241 cruise passengers in 2025, a rise of 26 percent. Revierkaia, below Akershus Fortress and next to Bjørvika, is the quay with shore power for ships at berth; Filipstad lies further west, beyond Aker Brygge. Both are minutes from the centre, which is why many passengers spend a few hours in the city between ship and airport.

Send the ship and the sailing date with the booking, and the chauffeur confirms which quay and which gate before the day. Norway also has a planned cruise levy of NOK 100 per passenger for each started 24 hours in port. Councils may choose to apply it from 1 January 2027, and Oslo plans to; it is charged on the cruise side, not on your transfer.

Port of Oslo · 900 × 600

Airport and port details above were checked in October 2026. Airlines move between the domestic and international sides and ships change quays, so take the detail from your boarding pass or cruise documents, and treat the chauffeur's pre-arrival message as the final word on where to walk.

The toll ring, mva and the price you are told.

Oslo charges road users through a toll ring rather than a congestion zone, and Norwegian law makes taxis state a price before the trip. Both shape what a ride costs, in different ways depending on how you book.

The Fjellinjen toll ring surrounds central Oslo, and almost every run from Gardermoen into town crosses it. For cars up to 3,500 kg in 2026, a petrol or plug-in hybrid car pays NOK 38 off-peak and NOK 47 in the rush, a diesel car NOK 42 and NOK 50, and an electric car NOK 21 and NOK 26. Rush pricing runs 06:30 to 09:00 and 15:00 to 17:00 on weekdays, with none at weekends, on public holidays or in July, and a car pays only once within an hour. On a RYDES booking all of this sits inside the quote, along with any other toll point on the chosen route.

Passenger transport in Norway carries 12 percent mva, and that is inside the price too. Taxis must give a price before the trip (forhåndspris), so a passenger at the rank can ask before getting in. The 2026 fixed taxi price from Gardermoen to the city is not something we have confirmed, so we do not print one here. What we can say is how each option reaches you, and that the only thing outside a RYDES quote is paid parking when you ask the car to wait somewhere that charges.

Rush pricing is a small part of the toll bill; the larger effect is time. Leaving Gardermoen at 15:30 on a weekday puts you on the E6 with the evening commute, and the toll ring crossing costs more. Neither changes what you agreed to pay. A side-by-side with the metered option is on Oslo taxi versus chauffeur.

How long the drives really take.

The airport is a long way out, and the E6 and the city ring roads carry heavy commuter traffic morning and evening. These are realistic ranges, not the free-road figure a map gives at 03:00.

Typical door-to-door driving times on common Oslo routes, for a direct private car.

Torp to Oslo S1 h 45 to 2 h2 h to 2 h 30The E18 through Vestfold and past Drammen

Winter matters more than the rush hour. A night of heavy snow slows the E6 and the hill roads to Holmenkollen, and an early flight after fresh snow needs real margin. For a departure you cannot miss between December and March, add half the off-peak time again, and allow more for anything uphill.

Beyond the city line.

Longer runs are priced as one fixed fare for the whole distance, tolls included, so an hour lost on the E18 costs you time rather than money.

Gothenburg and Stockholm cross into Sweden, so the run is confirmed by dispatch at booking with a licensed operator for the Swedish side, rather than sold automatically, and every passenger should carry a passport or national ID card. Distances above start at Gardermoen; from the city, Drammen is closer and Hamar and Lillehammer are further. For the far end, see our Gothenburg and Stockholm hubs, and Bergen for the west coast.

What sits inside the Oslo price.

No meter running, no demand multiplier, and nothing added after you step out.

Mva and the toll ring

Airport and port fees
Whatever Gardermoen, Torp or the cruise quays charge the operator for collecting you is already counted.
Gratuity, if you like
The chauffeur accepted this job at an agreed rate, so a tip is a choice, offered once at payment and easy to skip.

Paid parking, when you ask the car to wait at a place that charges for it. Nothing else is billed on top.

When you should not book us.

Gardermoen's airport express is quick, frequent and fairly priced, and for plenty of trips it is the better choice.

Travelling alone with a carry-on to a hotel by Oslo S, take Flytoget, the airport express. It runs every 10 minutes, reaches Oslo S in 19 minutes and costs NOK 276 for an adult single, and children under 16 ride free with an adult. No car beats that on the same journey. Vy regional trains also stop at the airport and take about 20 minutes to the centre, though as of 16 October 2026 a train-driver strike was affecting Vy services to and from the airport, while Flytoget ran normally. Flybussen coaches reach the centre, Majorstuen and Bekkestua in 40 to 50 minutes.

A chauffeur is worth the money in other conditions: heavy luggage or skis, three or more people, small children, a landing after the trains thin out, a destination the rail line does not serve such as Fornebu, Holmenkollen or the western suburbs, a day with several stops, or a snowstorm that turns the platform walk into the hard part. That covers most of the reasons people book us, not every journey. The full comparison is on Oslo taxi alternative.

Oslo questions.

If yours is not here, dispatch answers around the clock at +1 888 881 7933 or support@rydes.co.

How far is Oslo Gardermoen from the city centre?

About 50 km by road to Oslo S. A private car usually takes 45 to 55 minutes outside the rush and 55 to 80 minutes in weekday peak traffic, longer after heavy snow. Flytoget covers the same trip by rail in 19 minutes. Timings by destination are on OSL to Oslo centre.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at Gardermoen?

At the meeting point your chauffeur names in the message sent before you land, along with the car, a name and a phone number. A RYDES car does not use the public taxi rank outside international arrivals. Being met inside the arrivals hall with a name sign is a paid add-on. More on the Oslo airport transfer page.

Is a chauffeur car in Norway licensed differently from a taxi?

No. Norway has no separate limousine licence any more; the old selskapsvognløyve was abolished on 1 November 2020. Every paid car with up to 8+1 seats needs a taxi licence (drosjeløyve) from the county authority under the Yrkestransportlova. Since 2024 every licence holder must be connected to a licensed dispatch centre and drivers need a kjøreseddel. From 1 January 2026 a licence holder connects to one dispatch centre but may work with several booking intermediaries, which is how RYDES works with Oslo operators.

Are tolls and mva included in the price?

Yes. Every Fjellinjen toll ring crossing, any other toll on the route, the 12 percent mva on passenger transport and any airport or port charge on the operator are inside the price you accept. The only thing outside it is paid parking if you ask the car to wait somewhere that charges. See Oslo taxi versus chauffeur for the comparison.

What currency do you charge in Oslo?

Euros. RYDES quotes in euros; your card is charged in euros, and your bank handles any conversion. Fares on this page for trains and tolls are shown in Norwegian kroner because that is how they are sold locally.

How much is the Oslo toll ring?

For cars up to 3,500 kg in 2026: NOK 38 off-peak and NOK 47 in the rush for petrol and plug-in hybrid cars, NOK 42 and NOK 50 for diesel, and NOK 21 and NOK 26 for electric cars. Rush pricing applies 06:30 to 09:00 and 15:00 to 17:00 on weekdays, never at weekends, on public holidays or in July, and a car pays only once an hour. On a RYDES booking it is already in the price.

Should I just take Flytoget instead?

If you are one person with light luggage heading to Oslo S, yes. Flytoget runs every 10 minutes, takes 19 minutes and costs NOK 276 for an adult single, with under-16s free alongside an adult. A chauffeur makes more sense with heavy bags or skis, a group, small children, a late arrival, or a destination away from the line such as Fornebu or Holmenkollen.

Are the airport trains running normally right now?

As of 16 October 2026, a train-driver strike was affecting Vy trains to and from Gardermoen, while Flytoget was running normally. Check the operators before you travel. A pre-booked car is not affected by a rail strike, which is one reason people book a chauffeur on those days.

Can you collect me from Sandefjord Torp?

Yes. Torp is about 115 km from Oslo S, usually 1 hour 45 to 2 hours by car along the E18, and longer on winter evenings. The chauffeur names the meeting point before you land and the fare is fixed for the whole run. See Torp airport transfers and Torp to Oslo.

Do you meet cruise ships in Oslo?

Yes, at Revierkaia and Filipstad. Send the ship name and sailing date and the chauffeur confirms the quay and gate in advance. Revierkaia to Gardermoen is about 50 km and usually 45 to 60 minutes. Norway's cruise levy is a planned charge on the cruise side, not on your transfer. See Oslo cruise terminal transfers.

Can you take me to Norway Trade Fairs in Lillestrøm?

Yes. Lillestrøm is the shortest airport run from Gardermoen, about 34 km and usually 30 to 40 minutes. For exhibitors, an hourly booking keeps the car available through a stand day. See Norway Trade Fairs transfers and OSL to Lillestrøm.

Do you cover the Holmenkollen World Cup?

Yes. The World Cup ski jumping and cross-country weekend at Holmenkollen is 13 to 14 March 2027, and the hill roads are busy and often snowy that weekend. Book early and choose an SUV. Gardermoen to Holmenkollen is usually 55 to 65 minutes off-peak. See Holmenkollen transfers.

Can I book a car for Nobel week?

Yes. The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded in Oslo on 10 December each year, and hotels, restaurants and the centre are at their busiest around it. An hourly booking with a First class car suits evening programmes; book as early as you can. See Nobel week in Oslo.

Can you drive me to Stockholm or Gothenburg?

Often, yes. Both runs cross into Sweden, so dispatch confirms a licensed operator for the Swedish side at booking rather than selling it automatically. Gothenburg is about 337 km from Gardermoen, usually 4 hours 15 to 5 hours; Stockholm is about 519 km, 7 hours 20 or more. Carry a passport or national ID. See Oslo to Gothenburg and Oslo to Stockholm.

How much free waiting do I get at Gardermoen?

Sixty minutes from the time the aircraft actually lands, measured against the real arrival rather than the timetable. Other pickups include 15 minutes. After that, waiting is billed in 15-minute increments and you are told before it begins.

Can I hire a car and chauffeur by the hour in Oslo?

Yes. Hourly hire has a two-hour minimum and then runs in 30-minute increments, and the chauffeur waits between stops. It suits a meeting day at Fornebu and Lysaker, a wedding, or a cruise stopover with Bygdøy and Holmenkollen. See hourly chauffeur in Oslo and wedding transportation.

How far ahead should I book in Oslo?

At least 3 hours before pickup so the operator can assign and brief a chauffeur; reservations open up to a year ahead. For Nobel week in December, the Holmenkollen World Cup in March, Øya festival from 11 to 14 August 2027 and the DNB Oslo Maraton on 18 September 2027, book well in advance. Regular travellers can use corporate accounts.
