Hourly chauffeur in Naples

What is a Naples chauffeur service?

A Naples chauffeur service is private transport booked ahead at a fixed price and carried out by an NCC operator, noleggio con conducente, licensed by an Italian comune under Legge 21/1992, the national law on non-scheduled road passenger transport. An NCC car cannot be flagged down or join a taxi rank to find passengers, so every trip starts with a reservation. RYDES arranges that reservation and the licensed operator drives it, whether it is a Naples airport transfer from Capodichino, an hourly car service in Naples or a black car to a meeting in Chiaia.

In Naples the cheap options are genuinely cheap: fixed airport taxi fares, a €5 Alibus, a €5 train to Sorrento. A reserved Naples car service earns its place further out: on a coast road where rental cars are turned back by number plate, on a cruise day with a hard all-aboard time, or in November, when NAP closes and the flight lands in Salerno or Rome. The quoted figure is final and already holds the 10 percent IVA, any autostrada tolls and airport fees. That is the honest case for a taxi alternative in Naples.

One booking reaches the whole bay and beyond: NAP to the port for the islands, NAP to Sorrento, Naples to Pompeii, Caserta and its royal palace, Salerno, and Naples to Rome by road when the train does not suit the luggage. Companies moving guests or teams through Campania can put it on one account through corporate travel, and the full set of routes is priced the same way.

Every airport that serves Naples.

Capodichino sits inside the city and handles almost everything. In November 2026 it is due to close, and two other airports carry the load.

The closure dates published for NAP are 1 to 30 November 2026 and may still change, so check your airline before you book. During the closure, routes including Madrid, Dubai, Milan Malpensa, Amsterdam, Paris Orly and Barcelona are due to fly into Salerno, and ITA Airways runs a coach between Rome Fiumicino and Naples. A RYDES booking can start at either airport. Rome itself has its own page at chauffeur service in Rome.

Where your chauffeur actually meets you.

Capodichino is compact and close to town. Salerno is small and recently reopened. Fiumicino is large and two and a half hours away. Each pickup works a little differently.

Naples Capodichino.

Capodichino carried 13.27 million passengers in 2025, which is a lot for an airport set in the northern part of the city with a single passenger terminal. Molo Beverello is about 9.5 km away by road and Chiaia about 11 km.

The airport does not publish a single meeting point for NCC cars that we can confirm, so we do not print one here. Your chauffeur names the exact spot in the message sent before you land, and that message is the authority on where to walk. If you want to be met inside arrivals with your name on a sign, book meet and greet, which is a paid add-on.

Salerno airport.

Salerno Costa d'Amalfi e del Cilento reopened to passenger flights on 1 July 2024 and took its current name in July 2025. Aeroitalia and Wizz Air added routes for 2026, and in November it takes over a block of NAP routes, among them Madrid, Dubai, Malpensa, Amsterdam, Paris Orly and Barcelona.

Its public link is the Salerno Airlink shuttle to Salerno station, €5 and about 40 minutes, after which you still need a train or another car. For the Amalfi Coast it is often the better airport anyway, because it sits on the Salerno side, and Salerno airport to Amalfi avoids crossing Naples and the Sorrento peninsula. For a hotel in Naples, allow over an hour by car.

Rome Fiumicino.

Fiumicino is the long-haul gateway for most of Italy, and during the NAP closure ITA Airways connects it to Naples by coach. A Rome Fiumicino to Naples transfer by car takes roughly 2 h 30 to 3 h door to door, longer at the Rome end in rush hour, and the chauffeur can take you straight to Sorrento or the coast rather than to a coach stop in the city.

For travellers who land in Rome and want a night there first, the Rome to Naples run works in either direction, and the train is a serious alternative between the two city centres, covered further down. See also Rome.

Airport facts above were checked in October 2026. The November closure at NAP was announced with dates subject to change, and airlines move routes at short notice, so confirm your arrival airport from your booking on the day.

Fares, tolls, IVA and the restricted zones.

Naples has no congestion charge. What shapes a fare here is the comune's fixed taxi tariffs, the motorway tolls, the 10 percent IVA on chauffeur transport, and a set of restricted zones that decide where a car may go.

From Capodichino, the comune sets fixed taxi fares per car: €24 to Molo Beverello, the port or Piazza Municipio, €21 to Stazione Centrale and €28.50 to Mergellina, with a shared taxi at €6 per person to the station or Beverello. Those are fair prices. A private transfer costs more in town and makes sense for a large party or a trip on to the coast. Any autostrada toll the route uses is inside the quote, and 2026 tolls rose about 1.5 percent on average. Town taxi fares are VAT-exempt; RYDES fares carry 10 percent IVA, already counted.

The historic centre is a camera-enforced ZTL. Centro Antico runs daily from 09:00 to 17:00, with some streets later; the Belledonne, Martiri and Poerio zone runs from 19:00 to 07:00; and Chiaia applies on Saturdays from 10:00 to 13:30 and 16:00 to 22:00. Dispatch confirms ZTL access for your address; if the car cannot enter, the drop-off is at the nearest permitted point.

On the Amalfi Coast, the SS163 runs alternating number plates on set dates: from 10:00 to 18:00, between Vietri and Positano, odd or even last digits on matching dates. The 2026 calendar included 30 March to 6 April and 24 April to 2 May, and in October it applies on weekends and holidays only, with none from 1 November. Residents, taxis, NCC cars, guests with a confirmed booking and disability permits are exempt. Rental cars are not, which is one of the plainest reasons to book a chauffeur on the coast. Positano runs its own ZTL for vehicles with more than five seats, €5 per transit, and paying does not allow stopping or parking. Sorrento has a camera ZTL too, where hotels register guests' plates.

For a single traveller going to the port for the Capri boat, the €24 taxi is cheap and quick, and we would not talk you out of it. The comparison changes with a family and five cases, a hotel in Positano or a ship to catch. The longer version is on Naples taxi versus chauffeur.

How long it really takes.

Distances around the bay are short and the roads are slow. The coast is slower still in summer, when the upper end of these ranges is normal rather than bad luck.

On the Amalfi Coast in season, real driving times run far longer than any free-flow figure, so between spring and October plan generously and do not book a tight connection at the end. Champions League nights and the Napoli City Half Marathon on 21 February 2027 add their own delays in the city.

Pompeii, the peninsula, the coast and Rome are each priced as one fixed fare for the car, so a jammed coast road on an August afternoon costs you time, not money.

Any autostrada toll on the route and the 10 percent IVA on chauffeur transport are already in the price.
Airport fees
Whatever an airport charges a pre-booked car is counted, at Capodichino, Salerno and Fiumicino alike.
Gratuity, if you want to
The chauffeur's pay for the run was settled before the job was accepted. A tip is offered once at payment, and declining it is fine.
Flight tracking
Give the flight number and we follow the aircraft. If it moves earlier or later, or lands in Salerno instead, dispatch moves the pickup with it.

Every Naples job goes to an operator holding an NCC authorisation from a comune under Legge 21/1992, with insurance checked before it can take bookings.
Child seats and pets
Child seats are a paid add-on, supplied by the operator and fitted by the parent. Pets are a paid add-on, and service animals always ride free.

Paid parking, if you ask the car to wait somewhere that charges for it, and the tourist tax, which your accommodation collects. Everything else is in the quote.

When you should not book us.

Naples has some of the best-value public transport links of any big Italian city, and for plenty of trips they are the right call.

Alone or as a couple with a carry-on, heading to the centre, take the Alibus: €5, valid for 90 minutes, every 15 to 20 minutes, about 20 to 30 minutes to Piazza Garibaldi and 35 to 40 to Piazza Municipio. If you are catching the Capri boat, the fixed taxi fare to the port is €24 for the whole car, and the hydrofoil from Molo Beverello takes about 50 minutes from about €26.50 to €31. Sorrento is 40 minutes by boat from about €16 to €20.50, or 70 to 75 minutes on the Circumvesuviana for €5, with trains every 30 minutes, or about 69 minutes on the Campania Express for €15. Amalfi has a seasonal boat from 1 April, about 110 minutes, from about €31 to €34.

Between Naples and Rome, Frecciarossa and Italo trains take about 1 h 05 to 1 h 10 centre to centre, from about €15 when booked ahead. Take the train unless the trip starts or ends somewhere the station does not reach.

A chauffeur is worth paying for in other cases: several people with real luggage, small children, a hotel on the Amalfi Coast on a day when rental cars are turned back by plate, a cruise call with a fixed return time, a late arrival, a day with Pompeii and Sorrento on it, or a November flight that lands in Salerno or Rome. The full comparison is on Naples taxi versus chauffeur.

Is Naples airport closed in November 2026?

Naples Capodichino (NAP) is due to close from 1 to 30 November 2026 for runway and taxiway rebuilding, and the dates may still change. Flights on routes such as Madrid, Dubai, Milan Malpensa, Amsterdam, Paris Orly and Barcelona move to Salerno airport, and ITA Airways runs Rome Fiumicino to Naples by coach. RYDES can collect you at either. See Salerno airport transfers and Rome Fiumicino to Naples.

Can you pick me up at Salerno airport and take me to Naples?

Yes. Salerno Costa d'Amalfi e del Cilento airport reopened in July 2024, and a car takes over an hour to central Naples, more at peak. It is also the closer airport for the Amalfi Coast. The public alternative is the Salerno Airlink to Salerno station, €5 and about 40 minutes. See Salerno airport transfers.

Can I book a car from Rome Fiumicino to Naples?

Yes. It is a run of over 200 km, roughly 2 h 30 to 3 h door to door and longer when Rome traffic is heavy, priced as one fixed fare. The chauffeur can drop you in Naples, at the port or carry on to Sorrento or the coast. See Rome Fiumicino to Naples.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at Naples airport?

Your chauffeur names the exact meeting point in the message sent before you land, along with their name, vehicle and plate. Standard pickup is free. If you would rather be met inside arrivals with a name sign, book meet and greet as a paid add-on. See Naples airport transfers.

How much is a taxi from Naples airport?

The comune sets fixed fares per car from Capodichino: €24 to Molo Beverello, the port or Piazza Municipio, €21 to Stazione Centrale and €28.50 to Mergellina, verified June 2026. A shared taxi costs €6 per person to the station or Beverello. A chauffeur makes more sense for a larger group, a hotel door outside those zones or a trip on to the coast. See Naples taxi versus chauffeur.

Is a RYDES driver in Naples a licensed NCC?

Yes. Every journey is carried out by an operator holding an NCC authorisation, noleggio con conducente, issued by a comune under Legge 21/1992. The operator keeps its base and a rimessa, or garage, in that comune, with further rimesse allowed in the same province or metropolitan city. An NCC car works only on bookings made in advance and does not take street hails or wait at taxi ranks except for a passenger who has booked. RYDES arranges the booking and the licensed operator carries it out.

What do the NCC court rulings change for me?

In ruling 56/2020 the Constitutional Court struck down the rule that obliged an NCC car to go back to its garage after every job. A 2024 ministerial decree's 20-minute minimum between booking and pickup, and its ban on continuing contracts with platforms and intermediaries, were annulled by TAR Lazio in July 2025 and by Constitutional Court ruling 163/2025. A national electronic register for taxi and NCC, RENT, is being rolled out.

Can a chauffeur drive on the Amalfi Coast on alternating number plate days?

Yes. On the SS163 between Vietri and Positano, cars may run only on dates matching the odd or even last digit of their plate, from 10:00 to 18:00, on the dates set each year. In 2026 these included 30 March to 6 April and 24 April to 2 May, with October weekends and holidays only and none from 1 November. Taxis and NCC cars are exempt, as are residents, guests with a confirmed booking and disability permits. Rental cars are not. See Amalfi Coast transfers.

Can you drop me at my hotel in Positano?

Usually, yes. Positano runs a ZTL for vehicles with more than five seats, at €5 per transit, and paying does not allow stopping or parking, so Van and Group bookings are planned around it. With a smaller car the chauffeur takes you as close to the hotel as access permits. Tell us the hotel at booking. See NAP to Positano.

Can the car drive into the historic centre of Naples?

Not always. Centro Antico is a camera-enforced ZTL daily from 09:00 to 17:00, with some streets later, the Belledonne, Martiri and Poerio zone runs from 19:00 to 07:00, and Chiaia applies on Saturdays from 10:00 to 13:30 and 16:00 to 22:00. Dispatch confirms ZTL access for your address; if the car cannot enter, the drop-off is at the nearest permitted point. Pedestrian streets are never driven.

How long does it take from Naples airport to Sorrento or Amalfi?

Sorrento is about 52 km, usually 70 to 85 minutes outside the rush and 1 h 30 to 2 h at peak or in summer. Amalfi and Positano are 60 to 65 km, typically 1 h 15 to 1 h 30 off-peak and 1 h 45 to 2 h 30 or more in season, because the coast road is slow. Each is one fixed fare per car. See NAP to Sorrento and NAP to Amalfi.

Should I take the ferry to Capri or Sorrento instead?

Often, yes. The Capri hydrofoil from Molo Beverello takes about 50 minutes, from about €26.50 to €31, and Sorrento is 40 minutes by boat from about €16 to €20.50. The sensible plan is a car or the €24 fixed-fare taxi to the port, then the boat. See NAP to the Naples port.

Do you do shore excursions from the Naples cruise port?

Yes. The port handled about 1.85 million cruise passengers in 2025, and the common days out are Pompeii, about 30 to 40 minutes away off-peak, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. An hourly booking keeps the same car and chauffeur for the return, which matters with a fixed all-aboard time. Send the ship name with the booking. See Naples cruise port transfers.

Is it better to take the train from Naples to Rome?

Between the two city centres, usually yes. Frecciarossa and Italo take about 1 h 05 to 1 h 10, from about €15 booked ahead. A car takes 2 h 30 to 3 h 45 and costs more, and is worth it with a lot of luggage, small children, or a pickup or drop-off far from the stations. See Naples to Rome.

Are tolls, IVA and the tourist tax included?

Tolls on the route, the 10 percent IVA and airport fees are inside the price quoted at booking. The tourist tax is separate: Naples charges a per-night tax set by star category, collected by your accommodation, not by the car. Paid parking during a wait is also outside the quote.

How far ahead should I book in Naples?

At least 3 hours before pickup, and up to a year ahead. Book early for the November NAP closure, for summer on the coast, for Champions League nights on 20 October and 8 December 2026 and 27 January 2027, and for the Napoli City Half Marathon on 21 February 2027. Cancellation is free until 24 hours before pickup. For full days, see hourly chauffeur hire; for weddings, wedding transportation.
