How Bologna gets booked.

Most people who book a car here are doing one of four things: arriving for a fair, visiting a factory, eating their way across the region, or crossing the hills to Florence.

Hotel to hall and back, every day of the fair, with the same chauffeur if you want one. BolognaFiere transfers cover Cersaie and the other shows; Cosmoprof gets its own page because it squeezes the whole city's hotels. Teams on the floor all week should look at corporate travel in Bologna.

What is a Bologna chauffeur service?

A Bologna chauffeur service is a private car with a driver, booked in advance at a fixed price and carried out by an NCC operator, noleggio con conducente, licensed by an Italian comune under Legge 21/1992, the national law for non-scheduled road passenger transport. An NCC car cannot be hailed in the street or picked up at a taxi rank; every trip is reserved with the operator first. That is how a RYDES booking works, whether it is a Bologna airport transfer, an hourly car service around the fair district or a black car service for a client dinner in the centre. RYDES arranges the journey; the licensed operator drives it.

The value is certainty on the days Bologna is hardest to move around. When a big fair opens, every hotel from the station to the ring road fills, taxi queues at the airport stretch, and the fair district's roads slow to a crawl at opening and closing time. A reserved Bologna car service does not change its price on those days. The figure agreed at booking already contains the 10 percent IVA and any autostrada toll on the route, so the run to Florence or the Adriatic coast costs what the quote said.

The same booking reaches well beyond the city. BLQ to BolognaFiere for exhibitors, BLQ to Maranello and BLQ to Imola for the Motor Valley, Bologna to Parma for the ham and the cheese, and wedding transportation for villas in the hills. Anyone weighing a car against the meter should read the Bologna taxi alternative, and companies sending people to the fairs every year can centralise billing through corporate travel. Every city-to-city fare is on the routes pages.

The airport that serves Bologna.

Bologna has one airport, Guglielmo Marconi, a short drive west of the walls. What changes is where you are heading from it, so the table runs the same arrivals hall to the five places people most often book.

Bologna Marconi (BLQ) to common first destinations, with approximate road distance and typical door-to-door driving time.

Drive times are door to door from the airport and assume a direct private car, not a shared shuttle. Peak means roughly 07:30 to 09:30 and 17:00 to 19:30 on a weekday, plus the opening and closing hours of a large fair, when the ring road and the tangenziale around the fair district fill at the same time. Florence, Milan and other airports are reachable but are quoted to the address rather than listed here.

Where your chauffeur actually meets you.

Bologna is compact, but the three places people arrive are very different: an airport terminal, a railway hub and a fair district with several entrances.

Bologna Marconi.

Bologna Guglielmo Marconi handled 11,138,013 passengers in 2025, up 3.4 percent on the year before. Expect queues at passport control on a fair morning. Your chauffeur names the exact meeting point in the message sent before you land, along with their name, photo and the vehicle registration.

Give us the flight number and the pickup follows the aircraft, early or late. The 60 free minutes start from the actual landing time, which is usually enough for a non-Schengen arrival with checked bags. The timing for the drive into town is on BLQ to Bologna centre, and for exhibitors heading straight to the halls, BLQ to BolognaFiere.

  • Standard pickup, the free defaultYour chauffeur waits at the meeting point named in the pre-arrival message and walks you to the car.
  • Meet and greet, a paid add-onChauffeur inside arrivals with your name on a sign, useful with heavy bags or a first visit to Italy.
  • Flights from outside SchengenExpect passport control before baggage claim; the free hour usually covers both.

Bologna Centrale.

Many visitors reach Bologna by high-speed train rather than by air. Frecciarossa and Italo services from Florence take about 37 minutes and the fastest from Milan about 55, so the station is often the real arrival point for a fair or a Motor Valley day. The chauffeur names the meeting point at the station in the pre-arrival message, and the car waits outside rather than you dragging cases across the city.

The station also anchors the airport monorail, the Marconi Express, so travellers who flew in sometimes take the monorail to Centrale and book the car from there for the onward run to Modena, Ferrara or a villa in the hills.

BolognaFiere.

The BolognaFiere exhibition centre sits north-east of the old town, about 9 km by road from the airport. On a big show day thousands of people try to arrive between 08:30 and 10:00 and leave between 17:00 and 19:00, and the roads around the halls behave accordingly. The chauffeur names the entrance and the drop-off point for your hall, which depends on the fair and on the access plan the organisers publish for it.

For a week at the fair, the simplest booking is a morning transfer and an evening collection on each day, or an hourly chauffeur on the days with dinners after the halls close. Cosmoprof in March is the week to book furthest ahead.

Meeting points above are confirmed in your chauffeur's message for each booking rather than fixed on this page. Treat that message as the authority on where to walk.

ZTL, tolls, IVA and the licence.

Bologna has no congestion charge, but it has a camera-enforced historic centre, a 24-hour pedestrian core and tolled motorways in every direction. Each reaches the passenger differently depending on how you travel.

The centro storico is a ZTL, a zona a traffico limitato, enforced by cameras every day from 07:00 to 20:00. Inside it, Zona T, the three streets of Via Rizzoli, Via Ugo Bassi and Via dell'Indipendenza, is restricted around the clock; taxis and NCC cars may use it Monday to Friday but not on the T Days, when the zone is closed to all vehicles. For an address elsewhere in the old town, dispatch confirms ZTL access for your address; if the car cannot enter, the drop-off is at the nearest permitted point. Bologna also keeps 30 km/h zones across much of the city, after the regional court annulled the 2024 city-wide ordinances in January 2026 and new ordinances for about 258 km of streets were due from April. None of this changes a RYDES price, only where the car stops.

Leaving the city almost always means an autostrada, and the tolls rose about 1.5 percent on average in 2026. The A14 from San Lazzaro to Rimini Nord is €8.20 and the A1 from Bologna Casalecchio to Firenze Nord is €8.90; both are inside the quoted fare, as is the 10 percent IVA that applies to NCC passenger transport. Taxi fares in town are VAT-exempt, so the comparison with a meter is closer than the headline numbers suggest. The imposta di soggiorno, the tourist tax, is separate: your hotel charges it, from €4 to €7 per person per night depending on the room price, and €2.80 at campsites and hostels.

Every car on a RYDES booking is run by an NCC operator whose authorisation comes from a comune. The operator keeps its base and at least one rimessa, a garage, in that comune, and may hold further rimesse in the same province or metropolitan city. Since the Constitutional Court's ruling 56/2020, the car no longer has to return to base between jobs. A 2024 ministerial decree that set a 20-minute gap between booking and pickup and barred continuing contracts with platforms and intermediaries was annulled, by TAR Lazio in July 2025 and by Constitutional Court ruling 163/2025. RENT, the national electronic register for taxis and NCC, is being rolled out. Taxi unions have struck over NCC and app rules, including a national strike on 13 January 2026.

Routing out of the city is the operator's call, not yours. A run to Maranello might use the A1 or the via Emilia depending on the hour, and the drive to Rimini sits on the A14 for most of its length. Neither choice changes the quoted price. The full comparison against the meter and the monorail is on Bologna taxi versus chauffeur.

How long it really takes.

Bologna is where the A1 and the A14 meet, so the ring road carries national through-traffic as well as the city's own. These are ranges, and the upper end is common on fair days.

Typical door-to-door driving times on common Bologna routes, for a direct private car.

BLQ to Florence, the Duomo1 h 25 to 1 h 401 h 40 to 2 h 15The A1 over the Apennines, then Florence's own ZTL at the end

Traffic is only part of the story here. The A1 across the Apennines to Florence is a mountain motorway, and roadworks, incidents and winter weather on that stretch can add more than any rush hour. For a train or a flight you cannot miss, add half the off-peak time again as a buffer, and more during a large fair.

Leaving town.

Intercity runs are priced as one fixed fare for the whole journey, tolls included, so a slow A14 on a summer Saturday is the operator's problem rather than yours.

For Milan, Florence and most of the cities above, a high-speed train is often the right answer for one person with light luggage, and the section below says so plainly. A car earns its place door to door, with bags, or with stops on the way, such as a Ferrari visit between Bologna and Parma.

What the Bologna price contains.

No meter running, no per-bag supplement, and nothing added once you are out of the car.

IVA and tolls
The 10 percent IVA on NCC transport and any autostrada toll on the route, on the A1 or the A14, are inside the quoted figure, in euros.
Airport charges
Whatever the operator pays to collect at Bologna Marconi is already counted, so the airport price is the whole price.
Gratuity is yours to decide

Free cancellation
Change or cancel at no cost up to 24 hours before pickup. Inside 24 hours the booking is charged in full, because the car and chauffeur are already committed.

Every Bologna car is run by an operator holding an NCC authorisation from a comune under Legge 21/1992, with insurance checked before they can accept a booking.
Child seats and pets
Child seats are a paid add-on, supplied by the operator and fitted by the parent. Pets are a paid add-on; service animals always travel free.
What is not included
Paid parking, if you ask the car to wait somewhere that charges for it, and the imposta di soggiorno, which your hotel collects. Everything else is in the quote.

When you should not book us.

Bologna is one of the best-connected cities in Italy by rail, and for a lot of trips the train simply wins.

Travelling alone from the airport with a carry-on to a hotel near the station, take the Marconi Express. The monorail runs from 05:40 to midnight every day on a 5.1 km line to Bologna Centrale, takes a few minutes, and costs €12.80 single or €23.30 return. Going on to Florence, the high-speed train from Centrale takes about 37 minutes and starts from about €9 to €10; to Milan the fastest services take about 55 minutes.

A chauffeur earns its fare in different conditions: a group of three or more, luggage or fair samples you cannot wheel through a station, children, an arrival after the last monorail, a hotel outside the centre, a factory gate in Sant'Agata or Maranello that no train reaches, or a day with several stops between Modena and Parma. That is most of why people book us here, but not all travel, and we would rather say so. The full comparison is on Bologna taxi versus chauffeur.

Bologna questions.

If yours is not here, dispatch answers around the clock at +1 888 881 7933 or support@rydes.co.

What is an NCC car in Bologna?

NCC stands for noleggio con conducente, a car with driver. It is licensed by an Italian comune under Legge 21/1992 and, unlike a taxi, it cannot take street hails or wait at taxi ranks; every journey is booked in advance with the operator. Every RYDES car in Bologna is an NCC run by a licensed operator, booked at a fixed price. See Bologna car service.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at Bologna airport?

At the meeting point your chauffeur names in the message sent before you land, together with their name, photo and the car's registration. Standard pickup is free; being met inside arrivals with a name sign is a paid add-on. Details are on the Bologna airport transfer page.

How long does it take from Bologna airport to the city centre?

About 20 to 30 minutes off-peak and 30 to 50 minutes at weekday peak or on a busy fair day, for roughly 11 km. The last stretch depends on where your hotel sits in the ZTL. See BLQ to Bologna centre.

Should I just take the Marconi Express?

Often, yes. Travelling alone with light luggage to a hotel near Bologna Centrale, the monorail is the right call: it runs every day from 05:40 to midnight, takes a few minutes, and costs €12.80 single or €23.30 return. A car makes more sense with a group, heavy bags, children, a late arrival or a destination away from the station.

What does a taxi from Bologna airport cost?

Taxis from the airport are metered under the Comune di Bologna's tariff, starting from a minimum fare, with small supplements for the airport and for each bag. A RYDES price is fixed at booking with IVA included and no per-bag charge. The comparison is on Bologna taxi versus chauffeur.

Can a chauffeur drive into Bologna's ZTL?

The centro storico ZTL is camera-enforced from 07:00 to 20:00 every day. Taxis and NCC cars may use Zona T, on Via Rizzoli, Via Ugo Bassi and Via dell'Indipendenza, Monday to Friday, except on T Days when it is closed to all vehicles. For other old-town addresses, dispatch confirms ZTL access for your address; if the car cannot enter, the drop-off is at the nearest permitted point.

Are tolls and IVA included in the price?

Yes. The 10 percent IVA and any autostrada toll on the route are inside the price quoted at booking, in euros. On the A1 from Bologna Casalecchio to Firenze Nord that toll is €8.90, and on the A14 from San Lazzaro to Rimini Nord it is €8.20. Paid parking and the imposta di soggiorno are the only things outside the quote.

How much is the tourist tax in Bologna?

The imposta di soggiorno in 2026 is charged per person per night by your accommodation, not in the fare. It is €4 for rooms up to €30.99, €5.80 from €31 to €70.99, €6.50 from €71 to €120.99 and €7 from €121 a night; campsites and hostels charge €2.80.

How do I get to BolognaFiere?

BolognaFiere is about 9 km by road from the airport, 12 to 20 minutes off-peak and 20 to 40 minutes at fair opening time. The chauffeur names the entrance and drop-off for your hall. For a full week, book a morning drop and an evening collection each day, or hourly hire on dinner nights. See BolognaFiere transfers.

When is Cosmoprof 2027, and how early should I book?

Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna runs from 18 to 21 March 2027 at BolognaFiere. It is the week the city's hotels fill most tightly, so book airport and daily fair transfers as soon as your dates are fixed. RYDES takes reservations up to a year ahead. See Cosmoprof transfers.

Can you take me to the Ferrari museum in Maranello?

Yes. The Museo Ferrari in Maranello is about 44 km from Bologna airport, 45 to 55 minutes off-peak and up to 75 minutes at peak, with the toll inside the fare. Museum tickets are booked with Ferrari directly. Many visitors combine it with lunch in Modena on an hourly booking. See Ferrari Maranello by car and BLQ to Maranello.

Can I visit Ducati, Lamborghini and Ferrari in one day?

It is a long but workable day by hourly hire. Ducati in Borgo Panigale is about 8 to 12 minutes from the airport, Lamborghini at Sant'Agata Bolognese about 30 to 40 minutes, and Maranello about 45 to 55 minutes. Factory and museum visits are booked with each brand; the car waits between them. See Motor Valley tours.

Is there a Formula 1 race at Imola?

Not at present. Imola was dropped from the Formula 1 calendar for 2026 and is only a standby venue for 2027, so there is no race date to plan around. The circuit is about 40 to 50 minutes from Bologna airport off-peak. See BLQ to Imola.

Is it better to take the train or a car from Bologna to Florence?

For one person with a small bag, the train: the high-speed service takes about 37 minutes and starts from about €9 to €10. A car takes 1 hour 25 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes over the Apennines, toll included, and wins with luggage, a group or a door-to-door address. See Bologna to Florence.

Can I book a car by the hour in Bologna?

Yes, with a two-hour minimum and 30-minute increments after that. The chauffeur waits between stops, which suits fair days, food tours in Modena and Parma, and factory visits. Book at least 3 hours ahead. See hourly chauffeur in Bologna.

What if my flight into Bologna is delayed?

Add the flight number at booking and we track it. A delay moves the pickup automatically at no cost, and the 60 free minutes start at the actual landing time. If the flight diverts to another airport, dispatch re-briefs the operator and confirms the new pickup with you.
