How people move around Banff.

Most trips start at the Calgary airport and end at a hotel door in the park. The rest are ski mornings, lake days and the long drive north.

What is a Banff chauffeur service?

A Banff chauffeur service is a reserved private car with a professional driver, priced as one fixed fare before travel, run by a licensed chauffeur operator that holds both a Parks Canada business licence under the National Parks of Canada Business Licence Regulations and a Town of Banff business licence. Banff has no commercial airport, so the core trip is a Calgary airport transfer to Banff of about 130 km. The same booking model covers hourly car service in the park, ski transfers and a Banff car service between hotels, restaurants and trailheads.

It is different from the airport bus in three ways. The car leaves when your flight lands, not on the next scheduled departure. It goes to the door you name, including Lake Louise, which the Banff Airporter does not serve. And it carries everything a family brings to the mountains in ski season. The fare quoted already contains the 5 percent GST. Alberta has no toll roads, so there is nothing else to add, except the Parks Canada park pass, which is an entry fee you buy yourself and is not part of any Banff taxi alternative fare.

Around that core sit the trips that justify a private vehicle: Calgary airport to Lake Louise direct to the Chateau, Banff to Canmore for dinner, Banff to Jasper along the Icefields Parkway, wedding transportation in Banff between ceremony and reception, and corporate retreat travel for teams flying into Calgary.

The airports that serve Banff.

There is no runway for scheduled flights in Banff or anywhere in the national park. Almost everyone flies into Calgary, and private aircraft have a second option west of the city.

Times are door to door for a private vehicle, not a scheduled shuttle, which quotes 1.5 to 2 hours and runs longer in bad weather. Peak here means the Calgary weekday rush on the way out of the city, summer weekends, and the first big snowfall on Highway 1. If your plans include a few days in the city first, see chauffeur service in Calgary.

Where your chauffeur meets you.

Three places matter for a Banff booking: the arrivals level at YYC, the door of your hotel in the park, and the lakeshore at Lake Louise, where Parks Canada sets rules that no private car can bend.

YYC arrivals.

Calgary International does not publish a single named spot for pre-arranged limousines the way some large airports do. Your pickup is on the arrivals level, and the chauffeur confirms the exact door in the message sent before you land, along with their name, photo and plate. If customs or baggage runs long, the hour of free waiting starts from when the aircraft actually touches down, not from the schedule.

The drive west takes about 90 minutes in clear conditions. The first stretch is crosstown Calgary, which is the part rush hour affects; once past the city the Trans-Canada runs straight into the Bow Valley. Timings for each destination are on Calgary airport to Banff, YYC to Lake Louise and YYC to Canmore.

  • Arrivals level, the free defaultYour chauffeur names the door in the pre-arrival message and meets you there with the car.
  • Meet and greet, a paid add-onChauffeur inside the arrivals hall with your name, useful with ski bags, children or a late international arrival.
  • Springbank for private flightsMet at the private aviation side, which saves the drive across Calgary entirely.

Banff hotels.

In town the pickup is the hotel entrance, whether that is the Fairmont Banff Springs, the Rimrock on Sulphur Mountain, a lodge on Tunnel Mountain or a property on Banff Avenue. Fifteen minutes of free waiting is included. For an early ski start or a dawn departure to YYC, book the night before at the latest; the system needs at least 3 hours.

Most Banff stays involve a second hotel or a day away. A Banff car service booking handles the move from Banff to Lake Louise or out to Canmore, and a held car by the hour suits a day with several stops in the park.

Lake Louise and Moraine Lake.

At Lake Louise commercial vehicles pay no parking fee in 2026, but when the commercial lot is full a drop-off or pickup is limited to 10 minutes, and drivers may not turn left when leaving. In practice the chauffeur drops you at the lake and returns at an agreed time rather than idling at the shore. Hotel guests at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise or the Post Hotel are collected at the hotel door.

Moraine Lake is different. The road is closed to personal vehicles all year. Only Parks Canada shuttles, licensed commercial vehicles that carry 11 or more people including the driver, and registered Moraine Lake Lodge guests may use it. Taxis are explicitly excluded, and so is a chauffeured sedan or SUV. For most visitors the way in is the Parks Canada shuttle from the Lake Louise Park and Ride, and we can drop you there.

  • Lake Louise drop-offNo commercial parking fee in 2026; 10-minute limit when the commercial lot is full.
  • Moraine LakeNot reachable in a sedan, SUV or van. Dispatch can confirm whether a licensed group vehicle is available in season.
  • Park and RideWe drop at the Lake Louise Park and Ride for the Parks Canada shuttle, which you book with Parks Canada.

These access rules were checked against Parks Canada and airport sources in October 2026. Parks Canada revises Lake Louise and Moraine Lake arrangements every season, so the chauffeur's pre-pickup message is the authority on where to stand on the day.

Park passes, tolls and taxes.

Banff is simpler than a big city on road charges and more complicated on one point: the national park itself charges an entry fee, and that fee is yours to buy.

Every visitor who stops anywhere in Banff National Park needs a Parks Canada park pass, however they arrive: rental car, bus, bicycle or chauffeur. Driving straight through on the Trans-Canada without stopping does not require one. The 2026 daily rates are C$12.25 for an adult aged 18 to 64, C$10.75 for a senior and nothing for anyone 17 or under. Parks Canada also sells a family or group pass for up to seven people in one vehicle at C$24.50, and a commercial group rate of C$10.42 per person. The RYDES fare does not include a park pass. It is an entry fee to the park, not a tax or a toll, so buy the one that fits your party from Parks Canada before you travel.

Everything else is inside the quote. Alberta charges 5 percent GST and no provincial sales tax on the fare, the province has no toll roads, and there is no congestion charge anywhere on the route from YYC. Any airport fee is counted before you see the price. Canmore sits outside the national park, so a stay there needs no pass until you drive into the park, and anyone visiting Kananaskis pays the separate Kananaskis Conservation Pass of C$15 a day per vehicle.

How costs reach the traveller on the Calgary to Banff corridor, by way of travelling. Shuttle fares are set by the shuttle operators and Parks Canada.

The Lake Louise main lot also turns away anything over 6 m long or 2 m wide, which rules out many rental campervans and some large vans. The full comparison with metered and app fares is on Banff taxi versus chauffeur.

How long the drives take.

Distances in the Rockies are honest; the weather is not. The peak column covers the Calgary rush for airport runs and summer weekends or ski mornings inside the park.

Snow changes everything above. A storm on Highway 1 between Calgary and Banff slows the whole corridor, and a winter drive over to Golden or up the Icefields Parkway is planned around daylight, not the clock. For a flight out of YYC you cannot miss between November and March, leave the hotel with at least an extra 45 minutes in hand.

Out of the valley.

Long runs from Banff are priced as a single fixed fare to the address you give, so a slow climb through Yoho or a snowplough ahead on the parkway does not change the bill.

The tire rules change at the British Columbia line, and the vehicle assigned is chosen for the stricter of the two. Winter Icefields Parkway trips have no services and no mobile coverage between Lake Louise and Jasper, and snow clearing runs only from 07:00 to 15:30, so dispatch plans them around daylight and those clearing hours.

Parks Canada requires winter tires or chains on Highway 93 North (the Icefields Parkway) and Highway 93 South from 1 November to 31 March, or any time the road is snow- or ice-covered, and British Columbia requires them on Highway 1 through Yoho and Highway 93 South through Kootenay from 1 October to 30 April. Any booking on those roads is assigned a vehicle that meets the rule. Group-size vehicles designed for 11 or more people also carry an Alberta Safety Fitness Certificate. Capacity and luggage detail is on the vehicle classes page.

What the Banff price contains.

One number, agreed at booking, for the whole drive from the airport to the hotel door.

GST and any airport fee
The 5 percent GST is inside the fare, in Canadian dollars, along with any fee the airport charges a pre-arranged car. Alberta has no tolls to add.
Gratuity, if you choose
Your chauffeur accepted this run at an agreed rate, so a tip is a choice rather than an expectation. You are asked once, at payment, and declining costs nothing.
Flight watching
With the flight number on the booking, a delayed or early arrival at YYC moves the pickup with it and costs you nothing.
An hour at YYC
Sixty minutes of free waiting counted from actual touchdown, enough for customs and a ski carousel. Hotel and address pickups include 15 minutes.
Arrivals-level pickup

Cancel free until 24 hours out
Change or cancel at no cost up to 24 hours before pickup. Inside 24 hours the booking is charged in full, because the car and chauffeur are already committed to you.
A vehicle fit for the road
Winter tire and chain rules on the Icefields Parkway, Highway 93 South and the BC side of Highway 1 are met by the vehicle assigned, not left to you.
A licensed operator
Operators hold both a Parks Canada business licence and a Town of Banff business licence, with insurance checked before they can accept a booking.
Child seats and pets
Child seats are a paid add-on, supplied by the operator and fitted by the parent. Pets are a paid add-on. Service animals ride free.

When you should not book us.

The Calgary to Banff corridor has good scheduled options, and for some travellers they are plainly the better buy.

On your own, with one suitcase, landing in daylight and staying at a hotel in the town of Banff, take the Banff Airporter. It runs 11 departures a day between 10:00 and 22:30 and costs C$88.90 per adult one way. Brewster Express goes from YYC to Canmore, Banff and Lake Louise, from C$66.75 per adult each way when booked as a return. Once in the valley, Roam Transit Route 1 around Banff is C$2, Route 3 to Canmore is C$6 and the reservable Route 8X to Lake Louise is C$12.50. For Moraine Lake, the Parks Canada shuttle from the Lake Louise Park and Ride is the only way in for most visitors: C$12.75 adult, C$6.00 senior, C$4.00 youth, plus a C$3.50 online reservation fee, with the park pass extra.

A chauffeur earns its fare when the bus does not fit: a family with ski bags, a group splitting one vehicle, a flight landing after the last Airporter at 22:30, a direct run to the Chateau at Lake Louise, a ski day at Kicking Horse, a day on the Icefields Parkway, or several stops in the park by the hour. That is most of why people book us in the Rockies, but not every trip, and the numbers are here so you can choose. The full comparison is on Banff taxi alternatives.

Does Banff have an airport?

Not for scheduled flights. There is no commercial airport in Banff or in Banff National Park. Travellers fly into YYC Calgary International, about 130 km east, and drive roughly 90 minutes to Banff. Private aircraft can use Springbank (YBW), 15 km west of Calgary, which saves the crosstown drive. See Calgary airport to Banff and Springbank to Banff.

How long is the drive from Calgary airport to Banff?

About 90 minutes in clear conditions, usually 1 hour 25 to 1 hour 45 off-peak and up to 2 hours 30 with the Calgary rush or snow on Highway 1. Lake Louise adds another 56 km, about 45 minutes. See YYC to Banff and YYC to Lake Louise.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at YYC?

On the arrivals level. Calgary International does not name a single pre-arranged limousine spot, so your chauffeur confirms the exact door in the message sent before you land. Meet and greet inside the arrivals hall is a paid add-on. Details are on the Calgary airport transfer page.

Is the Parks Canada park pass included in the fare?

No. The park pass is an entry fee to Banff National Park, not a tax or a toll, and every visitor who stops in the park needs one however they travel. Buy it from Parks Canada before your trip. In 2026 a daily pass is C$12.25 for an adult, C$10.75 for a senior and free for anyone 17 or under. Driving straight through on the Trans-Canada without stopping does not require a pass.

Are taxes and tolls included in a Banff fare?

Yes. The 5 percent GST and any airport fee are inside the price quoted at booking, in Canadian dollars. Alberta has no toll roads and there is no congestion charge. The only things outside the fare are the Parks Canada park pass and paid parking at a stop where you ask the car to wait. See Banff taxi versus chauffeur.

Can a chauffeur drive me to Moraine Lake?

Not in a sedan, SUV or van. Moraine Lake Road is closed to personal vehicles all year and open only to Parks Canada shuttles, licensed commercial vehicles carrying 11 or more people including the driver, and registered Moraine Lake Lodge guests. Taxis are excluded. Dispatch can confirm whether a licensed group vehicle is available in season; otherwise we drop you at the Lake Louise Park and Ride for the Parks Canada shuttle.

Can you drop me at Lake Louise?

Yes. Commercial vehicles pay no parking fee at Lake Louise in 2026, but when the commercial lot is full drop-off and pickup are limited to 10 minutes, so the chauffeur drops you and returns at an agreed time. Public parking costs C$42 a day from 15 May to 12 October and fills before sunrise. See Lake Louise and Banff to Lake Louise.

Are your Banff chauffeurs licensed?

Yes. A business operating inside and outside the Town of Banff needs a Parks Canada business licence under the National Parks of Canada Business Licence Regulations, which runs from 1 April to 31 March, and a Town of Banff business licence. Vehicles designed for 11 or more people also need an Alberta Safety Fitness Certificate. These are checked before an operator can take a booking.

Do your cars have winter tires?

Any booking that uses a road with a winter tire rule is assigned a vehicle that meets it. Parks Canada requires winter tires or chains on Highway 93 North and Highway 93 South from 1 November to 31 March or whenever the road is snow- or ice-covered, and British Columbia requires them on Highway 1 through Yoho and Highway 93 South through Kootenay from 1 October to 30 April.

Should I just take the Banff Airporter?

If you are travelling alone with light luggage to a hotel in the town of Banff and land in time, probably yes. It costs C$88.90 per adult one way with 11 departures a day from 10:00 to 22:30. It does not serve Lake Louise. A chauffeur makes more sense for families with ski bags, groups, arrivals after 22:30, or a direct run to Lake Louise or Canmore.

How much free waiting do I get at Calgary airport?

Sixty minutes from the moment the aircraft actually lands, tracked against the flight rather than the schedule. Hotel and address pickups include 15 minutes. After that, waiting is billed in 15-minute increments at the class rate, and you are told before it starts.

Can you take us to the ski hills?

Yes. Sunshine Village's gondola base is about 15 km from town, 15 to 20 minutes; Mt Norquay is about 10 minutes; the Lake Louise Ski Resort is 45 to 50 minutes. Projected 2026-27 seasons are Sunshine 1 November to 16 May, Lake Louise 6 November to 2 May and Norquay 14 November to 18 April. See Banff ski transfers and Banff to Kicking Horse.

Can I hire a chauffeur by the hour for sightseeing in the park?

Yes, with a two-hour minimum in 30-minute increments, booked at least 3 hours ahead. A held car suits Lake Louise, Johnston Canyon and the Icefields Parkway in one day. The eastern 17 km of the Bow Valley Parkway closes overnight from 1 March to 25 June and to public vehicles in parts of spring and autumn, and dispatch routes around it. See private sightseeing in Banff.

Can you drive us from Banff to Jasper?

Yes. It is about 290 km on the Icefields Parkway, about 3 hours 30 in summer before stops. In winter the parkway has no services and no mobile coverage between Lake Louise and Jasper, snow clearing runs only from 07:00 to 15:30, and winter tires or chains are required, so winter trips run in daylight. See Banff to Jasper.

Do I need a park pass if I stay in Canmore?

Not for Canmore itself, which is outside Banff National Park. You need a park pass once you stop inside the park, for example in Banff or at Lake Louise. Visiting Kananaskis requires the Kananaskis Conservation Pass, C$15 a day per vehicle. See Canmore and Banff to Kananaskis.

How early should I book for Banff?

At least 3 hours ahead, and reservations open up to a year out. Book well ahead for summer peak, the ski season from November, the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival from 31 October to 8 November 2026, and weddings. For teams, see corporate retreat travel and wedding transportation.

What happens if my flight to Calgary is delayed?

Put the flight number on the booking and the aircraft is tracked from departure. A delay moves the pickup at no cost, and the free hour starts at actual landing. If the arrival slips past midnight or weather closes Highway 1, dispatch contacts you to re-plan; they are reachable at any hour on +1 888 881 7933.
