What is a Rotterdam chauffeur service?

A Rotterdam chauffeur service is private transport booked in advance at a fixed price, carried out by an operator holding a Dutch taxi licence (vergunning taxivervoer) applied for through Kiwa Register and supervised by the Inspectie Leefomgeving en Transport (ILT). In the Netherlands a chauffeur car is legally a taxi; what differs is that the price and the car are fixed before you travel. That holds whether the booking is an RTM airport transfer, a Schiphol to Rotterdam run, an hourly car service through the port, or a black car to a meeting on the Wilhelminapier.

Under the Wet personenvervoer 2000, any paid trip by car for up to eight passengers counts as taxi transport, so the vehicle carries blue licence plates and the driver holds a chauffeurskaart. The practical difference from a rank or an app is the price. Maximum tariffs and meters belong to street hails and ranks; a pre-booked Rotterdam car service trip is agreed in advance, and the figure already contains the 9 percent VAT, any tolled crossing on the route and the airport pickup charge. The full comparison is on the Rotterdam taxi alternative.

The same reservation reaches the rest of the region: the Cruise Terminal on the Kop van Zuid, Ahoy in the south, the terminals of the Port of Rotterdam out to the Maasvlakte, and Delft, The Hague and Kinderdijk for the day trips. Longer Rotterdam to Antwerp and Rotterdam to Brussels runs are confirmed by dispatch at booking, and teams moving people through the port every week can put it all on corporate travel in Rotterdam.

The airports that serve Rotterdam.

A compact regional airport inside the city limits, and the national hub an hour up the motorway. Which one you land at changes the whole shape of the transfer.

Drive times are door to door and assume a direct private car rather than a shared shuttle. Peak means roughly 07:00 to 09:30 and 16:00 to 19:00 on a weekday. Events at Ahoy, cruise turnaround mornings and motorway closures sit outside both columns; see the timing section below. RTM is owned by Royal Schiphol Group and has a single 2,200 m runway, so it handles European rather than long-haul flights.

Where your chauffeur actually meets you.

RTM is small enough that the walk from baggage to the car takes a couple of minutes. Schiphol is a different scale, and the Cruise Terminal runs to the rhythm of the ship.

Rotterdam The Hague Airport.

RTM is a single terminal at Rotterdam Airportplein 60, on the north side of the city. In 2025 it handled 2,355,489 passengers, up 5 percent, across more than 50 destinations, with Alicante, Málaga, Faro, Istanbul and London City the busiest. Transavia, British Airways and TUI are based here, and Pegasus, SunExpress and Air Arabia also fly in.

Outside, there are Kiss & Ride strips close to the terminal that anyone may use, and the P1 car park sits directly opposite for longer waits. The taxi rank about 50 m to the left of the exit belongs to the airport's exclusive taxi partner; a pre-booked RYDES car does not queue there. Your chauffeur names the strip or the P1 meeting point in the message sent before you land. Timing into town is on RTM to Rotterdam Centraal.

  • Kiss & Ride or P1, the free defaultYour chauffeur waits at the strip or in P1, whichever the pre-arrival message names, and any short-stay charge for your pickup is inside the price.
  • Meet and greet, a paid add-onChauffeur in the arrivals area holding your name, useful with children, a lot of luggage or a first visit.
  • Private aviationThe Jet Center building houses the FBO run by Jet Aviation, renovated and reopened in May 2025. Give us the tail number and handler with the booking.

Schiphol.

Schiphol is the main long-haul gateway for Rotterdam, about 60 km to the north. Every intercontinental arrival for the city comes through it, and the transfer south is the longest regular run on this page. The meeting point depends on the terminal area and the hour, so your chauffeur confirms the exact door in the message sent before you land rather than relying on a fixed spot.

Because the run is roughly an hour, flight tracking matters more here than at RTM: the chauffeur sets off against the aircraft's real arrival, and the 60 free minutes start at touchdown. For timing and price, see Schiphol to Rotterdam, and for travellers sailing the same day, Schiphol to the Rotterdam Cruise Terminal.

Cruise Terminal Rotterdam.

The Cruise Terminal is at Wilhelminakade 699 on the Kop van Zuid, under the Erasmusbrug. It takes ships of more than 300 m and supplies shore power at the quay. With Amsterdam capping its sea-cruise calls at 100 a year, about 40 calls were reported to have moved to Rotterdam for the 2026 season; autumn 2026 callers include MSC Preziosa, Holland America's Nieuw Statendam and Sky Princess.

Send the ship name and sailing date with the booking. On disembarkation day, the pickup is timed against the ship's published arrival and your chauffeur's message tells you where to walk once you clear the terminal. The waiting allowance here is the standard 15 minutes, so tell dispatch if your line's disembarkation group is a late one and the pickup is set to match.

Cruise Terminal · 900 × 600

Terminal facts above were checked against public sources in October 2026. RTM does not publish free minutes or a fee for its Kiss & Ride strips, so treat your chauffeur's message as the authority on where to walk and the price you were quoted as the authority on what it costs.

Tolls, VAT and zones.

Rotterdam has no congestion charge and no passenger-car environmental zone. What reaches a fare here is the transport VAT rate, the occasional tolled crossing, and the airport kerb.

Dutch motorways are toll-free for cars. The exceptions are a handful of crossings, among them the Blankenburgtunnel on the A24 west of the city and the Kiltunnel south of Dordrecht; on the run to Antwerp, the Belgian Liefkenshoek tunnel charges a car under 3 m €6.20 by card. When the route uses any of them, the toll is already in your RYDES price. Rotterdam has had no milieuzone for passenger cars since 1 January 2020. The zero-emission zone for city logistics covers delivery vans and trucks, not cars, so no sticker and no zone registration applies to a chauffeur car here.

Passenger transport in the Netherlands carries 9 percent VAT, the low rate, and that 9 percent is inside every quoted figure. So is any short-stay or kerb charge incurred to collect you at RTM or Schiphol. The one thing outside the quote is parking you ask for elsewhere, for example keeping the car in a paid garage near the Markthal while you shop.

How charges reach the passenger in Rotterdam, by way of travelling. Meters and maximum tariffs apply to street hails and ranks, not to pre-booked trips.

Route choice is the operator's call, not a cost to you. A chauffeur heading from RTM to the Kop van Zuid at 08:00 weighs the city streets against the A16 and the Van Brienenoordbrug; one heading west to the Maasvlakte checks the A15 closures first. The quoted figure stays the same either way. Compare a metered ride on Rotterdam taxi versus chauffeur.

How long it really takes.

RTM sits so close to the centre that the airport run is short, but the ring roads around Rotterdam carry the port's freight as well as its commuters. These are ranges, and the top of them comes round often.

Typical door-to-door driving times on common Rotterdam routes, for a direct private vehicle.

Schiphol to Rotterdam Centraal50 to 65 min70 to 100 minAbout 60 km, the longest regular run

Three road projects move these numbers. The new 11 km A16 Rotterdam, with the Rottemerentunnel, opened fully on 27 October 2025 and links the A13 at the airport directly to Terbregseplein, which helps runs to the east and south. Renewal of the Van Brienenoordbrug, which carries about 250,000 vehicles a day, starts in 2027 and runs for about five years, and Rijkswaterstaat warns of 30 to 60 minutes or more of extra travel time in that period. Nearer term, the A15 towards Europoort and the Maasvlakte has phased closures from 16 to 26 October 2026, and works on the A20 run until May 2027. For a departure you cannot miss, add half the off-peak time again.

Beyond the city.

City-to-city journeys are priced as one fixed fare for the whole trip, not by the hour, so a slow A13 or a queue at the Antwerp ring is carried by the operator.

Journeys into Belgium, Germany or France are confirmed by dispatch at booking rather than sold automatically, because the vehicle has to be run by an operator able to carry the trip on both sides of the border. Antwerp and Brussels are often quicker by Eurostar for one person with light luggage; the car makes sense with a group, heavy cases or a door the station does not reach. Distances for Amsterdam and Brussels depend on the address, and the fare is fixed to the one you give.

Cruise luggage is the usual reason a booking needs a bigger car than expected: two people on a two-week sailing often fill an SUV. What the Rotterdam price contains.

No meter running, no demand pricing, and nothing added once you have stepped out of the car.

VAT and tolls
The 9 percent Dutch transport VAT and any tolled tunnel or bridge on the route are inside the quoted figure, in euros.
Airport pickup charges
Any Kiss & Ride, short-stay or kerb charge incurred to collect you at RTM or Schiphol is counted already.
Gratuity is optional
The chauffeur accepted the run at an agreed rate, so their pay does not hang on a tip. You are offered the choice once, at payment, and declining is fine.
Flight tracking
Add the flight number and the aircraft is followed from departure. An early or late arrival moves the pickup without any charge.
An hour at the airport
Sixty minutes free from actual touchdown at RTM and Schiphol, enough for passport control and bags. Other pickups, the Cruise Terminal included, have 15 minutes free.
Standard pickup
Collection from the Kiss & Ride strip or short-stay car park your chauffeur names costs nothing extra. Being met in arrivals with a name board is a paid add-on.
Free cancellation
Change or cancel at no cost up to 24 hours before pickup. Inside 24 hours the booking is charged in full, because the car and chauffeur are already committed.
A licensed Dutch operator
Every Rotterdam car is run by an operator with a vergunning taxivervoer, driven by a holder of the CBR taxi diploma and a chauffeurskaart, and registered as a taxi with the RDW.
Child seats and pets
Child seats are supplied as a paid add-on and fitted by the parent. Pets are a paid add-on; service animals ride free.
What is not included
Parking you ask for at a stop, such as a city-centre garage while you wait for someone. Everything else is in the quote.

When you should not book us.

The Dutch rail network is among the best in Europe, and between Schiphol and Rotterdam it often beats the road.

Travelling alone from Schiphol with a cabin bag to a hotel near Rotterdam Centraal, take the Intercity Direct. It runs twice an hour and takes about 25 minutes, against 50 minutes or more by car. You pay a supplement on top of the normal fare, €3.20 at peak or €1.92 off-peak in 2026, by checking in at the Toeslag posts on the platform. Since December 2024 the Intercity Direct stops at Amsterdam Zuid, not Amsterdam Centraal. From RTM, bus 33 runs to Meijersplein for metro line E, or straight to Centraal, in about 30 minutes, and OVpay contactless cards work on both.

Heading on to Belgium, France or the UK on your own, the Eurostar from Rotterdam Centraal reaches Antwerp in about 32 minutes, Brussels in about 1 h 10, Paris in about 2 h 40 and London in about 3 h 29. No car competes with that.

A chauffeur is worth paying for in other circumstances: cruise luggage, more than two travellers, young children, a late arrival after the last connection, a destination the trains do not serve such as the Maasvlakte, Kinderdijk or a port terminal, a day with several stops, or an Ahoy night when every taxi is spoken for. That is most of why people book us, not every trip, and we would rather say so. The cost comparison is on Rotterdam taxi versus chauffeur.

Should I fly into Rotterdam The Hague Airport or Schiphol?

For a European flight, RTM is far quicker: it is about 6 km from Rotterdam Centraal, typically 10 to 20 minutes by car off-peak, and serves more than 50 destinations with Transavia, British Airways and TUI based there. Schiphol, about 60 km north, handles long-haul and intercontinental flights and anything RTM does not serve. Compare RTM to Rotterdam Centraal with Schiphol to Rotterdam.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at RTM?

At the Kiss & Ride strip near the terminal or in the P1 car park directly opposite, whichever the chauffeur names in the message sent before you land. The taxi rank about 50 m left of the exit belongs to the airport's taxi partner and is not used for pre-booked RYDES trips. Meet and greet in arrivals is a paid add-on. Detail is on the RTM airport transfer page.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at Schiphol?

Your chauffeur confirms the exact door in the message sent before you land, because it depends on the terminal area and the time of day. The standard pickup is free; being met inside arrivals with a name board is a paid add-on. The drive to Rotterdam Centraal is about 60 km, usually 50 to 65 minutes off-peak. See Schiphol to Rotterdam.

Is a chauffeur car in the Netherlands a taxi?

Legally, yes. Under the Wet personenvervoer 2000, every paid trip by car for up to eight passengers is taxi transport, so the operator holds a taxi licence (vergunning taxivervoer) through Kiwa Register, the driver holds the CBR taxi diploma and a chauffeurskaart, and the car carries blue plates. What differs from a rank taxi is that the price and the car are agreed before you travel, so no meter is needed.

Who licenses Rotterdam chauffeur operators?

Licences are national. Operators apply for the vergunning taxivervoer through Kiwa Register, and the Inspectie Leefomgeving en Transport (ILT) enforces the rules. Rotterdam sets no extra rules for pre-booked trips; municipal permits in the Netherlands cover street hails and ranks. Since 1 July 2025 the BCT on-board computer has been dropped as an obligation, and trip and working-time data move to the central taxi database from 1 January 2028.

Are VAT, tolls and airport charges included?

Yes. The 9 percent VAT on Dutch passenger transport, any tolled crossing such as the Blankenburgtunnel, and any short-stay or kerb charge incurred to collect you at RTM or Schiphol are inside the price quoted at booking, in euros. Parking you ask for elsewhere is the only thing outside it. See Rotterdam taxi versus chauffeur.

Does a low-emission zone apply to my car in Rotterdam?

No. Rotterdam has had no environmental zone for passenger cars since 1 January 2020. The city's zero-emission zone for logistics applies to delivery vans and trucks, not passenger cars, so no sticker, registration or zone charge applies to a chauffeur car in Rotterdam.

How long does RTM to Rotterdam Centraal take?

Usually 10 to 20 minutes off-peak and 20 to 35 minutes in weekday peak traffic, over a distance of about 6 km. RTM to Ahoy is 18 to 25 minutes off-peak, and RTM to the Maasvlakte 40 to 50 minutes. See RTM to Rotterdam Centraal and RTM to Ahoy.

Would the train from Schiphol be better?

Often, and we would rather say so. Travelling alone with a cabin bag to somewhere near Rotterdam Centraal, the Intercity Direct takes about 25 minutes and runs twice an hour, with a supplement of €3.20 at peak or €1.92 off-peak in 2026, paid at the Toeslag posts. A chauffeur makes sense with heavy luggage, more than two people, children, a late arrival, or a destination away from the station.

Can you collect me from the Rotterdam cruise terminal?

Yes. The Cruise Terminal Rotterdam is at Wilhelminakade 699 on the Kop van Zuid. Send the ship and sailing date with the booking and the pickup is timed to the ship, with 15 minutes free waiting. RTM to the terminal is about 9 km, typically 15 to 25 minutes, and Schiphol to the terminal about 64 km. See Rotterdam cruise transfers and Schiphol to the Cruise Terminal.

How do pickups work after an event at Ahoy?

Ahoy has an official taxi rank and an app pick-up area at the front. For a pre-booked car, your chauffeur sends the meeting point before the event ends, and the pickup time is set to the finish you give us. North Sea Jazz in July draws around 90,000 visitors, so book early for it, the ABN AMRO Open and the Six Days. See Rotterdam Ahoy transfers.

Can you take me to a terminal in the Port of Rotterdam?

Yes. We cover the port from Waalhaven and Botlek out to Europoort and the Maasvlakte, about 42 km west of RTM and typically 40 to 50 minutes off-peak. Tell us the terminal and gate with the booking. The A15 towards Europoort and the Maasvlakte has phased closures from 16 to 26 October 2026. See Port of Rotterdam transfers and RTM to the Maasvlakte.

Do you drive from Rotterdam to Antwerp or Brussels?

Yes, as cross-border trips confirmed by dispatch at booking rather than sold automatically. Antwerp is about 100 km by road. For one person with light luggage the Eurostar from Rotterdam Centraal is hard to beat, at about 32 minutes to Antwerp and 1 h 10 to Brussels. See Rotterdam to Antwerp and Rotterdam to Brussels.

Will roadworks affect my Rotterdam transfer?

Sometimes. The Van Brienenoordbrug on the A16 carries about 250,000 vehicles a day and goes into renewal from 2027 for about five years, and Rijkswaterstaat warns of 30 to 60 minutes or more of extra travel time. The A20 works run until May 2027. The new A16 Rotterdam with the Rottemerentunnel, open since 27 October 2025, gives a direct link from the airport area to Terbregseplein.

How much free waiting do I get?

Sixty minutes at RTM and Schiphol, counted from the actual landing time rather than the schedule, and 15 minutes at every other pickup, including the Cruise Terminal. After that, waiting is billed in 15-minute increments at the class rate, and you are told before it starts.

How far ahead should I book in Rotterdam?

At least 3 hours before pickup, and reservations open up to a year out. Book early for IFFR from 28 January to 7 February 2027, the ABN AMRO Open from 6 to 14 February 2027, the Rotterdam Marathon in April, North Sea Jazz in July, World Port Days in early September and the Europort trade show from 2 to 5 November 2027. Regular travellers should look at corporate accounts.

Can I hire a car and chauffeur by the hour in Rotterdam?

Yes, with a two-hour minimum in 30-minute increments. The chauffeur waits between stops, which suits a day of port visits or a Kinderdijk trip with time at the windmills. Paid parking at a stop is the only cost outside the quote. See hourly chauffeur hire and Rotterdam to Kinderdijk.
